Fdxlag,

Just don't believe it's possible for you to run out of sarcasm.

To answer your question, to the best of my knowledge The Union is not telling/requesting we wear hats. Our Union has requested we wear lanyards, stay informed, and stay engaged.

That being said, wearing or simply buying a hat will give YOU a pretty good idea which team I'm just as it will mgt.

And surprisingly enough, out of that case law was an example of UAL pilots wearing or not wearing their hats based upon an MEC light switch photo as indicative of just how much support/control the UAL MEC had over pilot job actions.
So, just wanted to point out to other posters that times have changed from the glory days of unions. Hopefully we've all heard about the pilot who was using vips to look up phone numbers of DP flyers and calling them to point out the error of their ways

If wearing a parka on Friday is your way of showing unity, right there with you Brother. Parka's at home right now, so it'll be October before I show up properly equipped

Maybe this is what the distraction of PIBS has always been about. 0 and BM have long wanted us in hats....

Wearing a hat will make people ask "what's with the hat", which will provide you an opportunity to explain why.

Isn't getting a hat just showing our leadership, our fellow pilots and the company that we are getting prepared to walk informational or strike picket lines? Given the concessionary nature of negotiations it's only natural to be getting prepared.

Maybe. That's why I'm getting one.

In the context of "major airline," everything that is not a major airline is second string, B-team. We're not in the military, at a regional, or in corporate aviation anymore. We all are here because we wanted to be, we trained hard for it and we finally reached our goal of flying for a major airline. So be proud of that.

Is it necessary to denigrate other factions of our profession in order to feel a sense of accomplishment for attaining your career goal?

If you want to used a sporting reference, second string or B-team implies inferior or maybe immature skills and/or lack of experience. You can't possibly think that's the case with us simply by virtue of being hired at FedEx. I would guess almost everyone on the high school football team aspires to make the varsity and play first string. That's not the case in aviation. The varsity team is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure there are plenty of folks who don't want to work for a major airline or FedEx for that matter. They may have a great gig wherever they work or prefer to serve in the military.

I'm not proud of being hired at FedEx. I feel fortunate and blessed but not really proud. Yes, I worked hard for it but plenty of other pilots did too and just had worse timing or maybe lack of network.
