FedEx number of pilots

You can see the company fleet plan in the FCIF for the last 767 vacancy bid. Basically, over the next year and a half we are gaining 12 B-757s and 11 B-767s, and losing 5 Airbuses and 16 MD-11s. Obviously we are over manned in the Maddog. It will be interesting if the company tries to balance manning with excess bids or vacancy bids. It seems that excess bids bring about a lot of training cycles and the opportunity for POP. I also think the company is overmanned based on current economic conditions, but 3600 pilots no way. 4000 in my estimate would be very tight and the company would be dependent on draft and volunteer. I guess we will we in the next couple of months.

Also, we certainly won't let two 777 pilots jumpseat on the same flight, in case they get an opportunity to be in the back together by themselves!
