FedEx number of pilots
I'm not much of a rumor guy, but I wanted to hear your take on this rumor I heard from a pilot in the training department. He said that this is what the company number crunchers are seeing in our future.
"With pibs and more efficiencies our pilot force will be down to about 3000 pilots... Without pibs, but with improved efficiencies our crew force will be about 3600."
I don't see pibs in the future. But doesn't it seem like they have squeezed us as much as they can, with the optimizer? I know that going to an all Boeing fleet with require less pilots. But my question is, if their goal is 3000 to 3600 pilots, why aren't they able to do that right now?

Sounds like a nice management negotiating scare tactic! The sky is falling we should be happy with what we have. If we are so fat how come they are wet leasing A/C for peak. All those extra bodies and planes should be able to cover the lift, right? Plus with the reservist/guard guys flying the line and not drilling, I also forgot about no one calling in sick. We should be super fat for peak!

Maybe Contract posturing?
Maybe 4.a.2.b posturing?
Maybe just the normal ... "F" with the pilots and make them worry about losing their jobs? Wasn't that one of the chapters in Marty Levitt's book? Hmmm ...
Now that we're approaching serious (I hope?) Contract Negotiations, those who haven't read this book might consider doing so. FedEx hired this guy during one of our previous contract negotiations. "Good Faith" bargaining can be scary unless you happen to have read their playbook!*?
