I've heard they'll have to wait at least a year before trying again. Then again, since there are so many applicants they might be waiting a very long time... Who knows?

Jlg79 - sorry to hear about the test - the truth is no one knows if you can retake it or not. I bet you even the HR peeps aren't quite sure how to handle this. You could always call them?

"2007 Hire letter"?

You mean the pool letter? Unfortunately the old pool has been flushed. Several people had it confirmed with the HR.

Thanks in advance to all those giving great info.....Being a military guy and needing to evaluate my options, I have a relative that is extremely high up in management at UPS. I'm curious if a reference of that nature would make any difference. I'm inclined to think not since my relative isn't a pilot and is not directly involved. However, my mil pilot brethren seem to think I have a pretty good connection. Thoughts?

Also, I can't be hired by UPS until they retire and could that effect the recommendation?

Thanks, Happy Holidays.

1) Your relative does not need to retire before you start. The nepotism rules are gone. Case-in-point, a friend's brother just got hired (pool).

2) If he/she is extremely high up I'm sure it'll help you. BUT, you'll probably be steered toward a management position which most of us will never endorse.
So if your relative can help you in becoming a line pilot - GO FOR IT!

If he/she steers you toward a management position - RUN!

It certainly couldn't hurt to have a relative high up the food chain at Brown. It doesn't matter if that relative is a pilot or a boxhead. A recommendation in the system is a good thing.

As far as the nepotism rule goes...I thought UPS did away with that rule a couple of years ago. Can any other Brown guys chime in here on this?

No longer nepotism rules at UPSS.

I think an upper management rec will help you get a job as a NURP unfortunately. And kiss your life and self respect goodbye with that one.

Getting a job as a line pilot is a very poor decision here now. Plan on being junior for a loooong time with zero QOL. Also, plan on being furloughed here, because they will do it again first chance they get.

Plan on being hated, despised and cheated by your employer too if you want to work for them,

With all the majors hiring and the massive retirements, I would go elsewhere honestly. Crazy to come to this craphole trucking company instead of a real airline.

The way my relative explained it to me was that they did do away with the nepotism rule, however, they are so high up in the company that I guess it would be a conflict of interest? or something and that I would have to wait until they retire. As far as the management or line pilot debate...Being military I have had enough of the management gig...I want to fly with good people and enjoy my time off with my family. Thanks for the help.

Anc74, So your saying that the turnover at UPS is fairly slow compared to the Majors? The seniority issue can be a problem for QOL. However, I was told that UPS compared to the majors is roughly $3M difference in retirement benefits in the long-term. I guess the grass is always greener, however, I just thought that the possibility of getting hired at UPS is better than waiting for 6-12 months for a major to call.
