328 charter ops I joined a year ago after returning from a Nigeria contract. A couple of Navy contracts didn't come through which is what I was really hired for

It's not about successful company for him, it's money!!! He'll sell it in 5-7 years.
It's neither sarcastic or naive. I understand what corporate America is all about, but this is not a huge company that is traded publicly. This is a small privately owned company and Jim Neff doesn't have to answer to stock owners. The only person he has to answer to is himself. I just don't understand why someone that is that wealthy who isn't a slave to the stock owners chooses to run a company that way. I understand he probably feels like he got burned by the pilots at Southern that sued him, but they won that case for a reason.

I just couldn't look myself in the mirror if I knew I had the opportunity to provide a bunch of hard working Americans with a great job and I still chose to keep wages low and working conditions difficult just so that I could die with a few more million in the bank. Like I said, it's a shame.

Man, I'm really happy you got the call for Southwest; with that idealistic Pollyanna-like outlook of yours, you're simply not cut out for the scumbag-side of flying. You'd drive yourself crazy trying to figure out why your boss acts the way he does. The fact that he's using a third party to hire you so as to avoid future lawsuits should tell you everything you'll ever need to know about what makes Mr. Neff tick.

Western Global, SkyLease, Southern... All roach hotels. The owners care about one thing, and one thing only; the bottom line. They could literally give a flying frack about you and your co-workers. You are a line item on their expense sheet, nothing more. The closer they can get that number to "zero", the better.

This isn't Corporate America. This is way, way worse. This is "36th Street" Scumbag America. This is "sleazeball Guido used-car salesman/ bail bondsman running an airline" America. Pimps are generally viewed in better light than the types running these companies.

I don't know when your class date is at WN, but if I was in your shoes, I'd spend as much time as possible between now and then not flying. Your certificate is on the line every single time you go to TOGA power on that junker fleet you're flying, way more than even you may realize.

Pimp issues eh? Tell Guido what's wrong and maybe he can help you out.

'Preciate the assist, but nothing that can't be handled in house.

At least, for now. Should things escalate, I'll holler...

Funny Youtube Gringo,

I think you've capsulized fairly well the small cargo mentality. I invite you to reexamine that this is the prevailing thought process from most corporate bean counters in all sectors.

safe journeys...Sushi

I generally agree with your statement. However, the guys running these airlines take it to a whole new level.

Guys like Neff, Ray, Soaper, etc etc, not only do they not give a flying fig about you, they downright despise you.

At least Connie gives it to you straight; "My name's Connie, that's my name on the building, if you don't like how I run things, leave. I'm gonna fcku you sometimes, you're gonna fcku me other times, but we'll both make lots of money in the meantime..." Man might be a son-of-a-*****, but he's up front about it. (Never worked for the guy but this story has been retold countless times)

The other guys? Not only do they not care about you (the pilot) but they'll actually go out of their way to make your situation as miserable as possible, if only to remind you that you work for them.

I dunno. Maybe they weren't hugged enough as children. Maybe they wanted to be pilots themselves but couldn't figure it out. Whatever the case may be, they run their business not only as lean as possible, but also as vindictively as possible, just because they know they have, for the most part, a captive audience, and because they can.

Corporate bean counters generally have a soul. A small one, granted, but it's there. Neff? Soaper? Ray? They run their business in a way that would make a Lincoln Park Pirate give pause, thinking "no, man, that's just going too far."

Hey Gringo,

Are things so boring @ Spirit that you gotta cruise the 'boards here to keep b*tching about the obvious?

Yeah we already know all about this cr*p already.

Don't you have anything better to do? Think Don Henley - Boys Of Summer: Don't look back, you can never look back!

Maybe you miss it and want to come back! I'm really truly thinking that you do!

You could be Captain on the 737, they are doing Direct Entry Check Airman on that aircraft!

Adios!

Hmm. Guess you didn't get the memo.

The purpose of these boards is to educate. Well, ***** and educate. But since I managed to successfully extricate myself from that mess, I've got nothing to "*****" about. My posts provide perspective on the subject matter, without the (ample) sugarcoating provided by the current inmates.

If you had spent maybe, oh, 30 seconds reading the previous posts on this thread (and every other one just like it) you would have come to the realization that there are quite a few people out there who have no idea what this side of the fence flying actually entails. You and I know; maybe it's "obvious" to us, but it certainly isn't "obvious" to them.

Maybe you're sore that I got out but you're still stuck at Suddern. You'll get your shot. One way or another, you'll be free too. You'll finally get hired somewhere else, or Suddern will close up shop. Whichever comes first.

But to answer your question. Why do I "cruise these boards"? Because I'm the guy I wish I had to listen to 10 years ago when I made the mistake of switching. Because I didn't have someone tell me to pull my head out of my ass when I considered leaving a well-established regional to pursue some magic wide-body time in the hopes for getting picked up by a major faster. Because I cringe when someone makes an impassioned plea to ears that have gone deaf a long time ago, wondering why things suck so bad, surely there must be a way to improve the situation?

I do this because guys are still grossly uninformed out there, making 2005-era mistakes in 2015.

Seriously, though. Come back to Suddern? To be a Captain on a Jurassic-era Guppy? Why the hell would I, or anyone else for that matter, want to do that?

I dunno though. Maybe you're right. Maybe I am bored. What, with 83 hours of credit this month and 19 whopping days off, maybe I do need to find something else to do with all my spare time... Although, I gotta be honest. It's been a slow month. Last month I managed 141 hours credit with 15 days off.

Yup. That's it. Boredom.
