Default Waiting at commut

While it is real nice to get paid sitting home at commut, the big problem is you loose all proficiency. Then if you get the call to go back several months later, you have forgotten everything....

While I can't disagree that it is tough to maintain proficiency, you really have no argument for not being proficient. They are paying you and have required you to do nothing else, so why can't you study. I was off for 2 months between sim and IOE, and while I did lose proficiency I had no one to blame but myself.

If you can get into the December class do it. We are on the backside of the hiring boom until they announce the 20 options. 1 class could be a major difference in QOL over the long term.

I might be mistaken, but I believe he was referring to flying. People don't lose "proficiency" in book material, they forget.

I'm currently FO in the dash w around 500 hrs. I'm considering transitioning to 145 FO. The main reason is that I would like to get comfortable in the 145 before moving into the left seat when I hit 1000 SIC. The downside is I'll miss out on 3-5 months of flight time while training, extra checkride, and possibly worse sched than what I have now in the dash which is pretty sweet. Any opinions on my situation would be helpful. Also, 7 open FO slots is a lot more than I expected. Am I reading this correctly that all of those 7 openings are for current c5 pilots? I'm fairly confident I could land a spot if I put it in my preference. But I'm not sure if I understand when the class starts? Is it for December? If so, what happens to my December dash line that has already been assigned to me if I'm awarded the 145? Thanks!

Default Transitioning to 145

Oh... also I think our contract says we're seat locked for 18 months, which I'm no where close to. But, everyone I've spoken to doesn't think that will be an issue and that the company would prob wave that if I wanted to transition.... any thoughts on that?

Call David, Norma or Joey they should have answers to your questions. To my understanding. 1. Yes, 7 FO slots for current C5 Pilots. 2. I think it's a typo, update preference by 1 December for a February class date. (Similar to the DHC-8 wording) 3. To my limited understanding Seat lock, if you bid for the DHC-8 in new hire, then you are seat locked. If you bid ERJ and did not get it, and end up in the DHC-8 then you are free to bid off subject to the 30% rule in the contract. 4. Do what you think best for your personal situation, never upgrade unless you are comfortable and confident.

Is there a new hire class starting today?
Any idea how many pilots?

If I could make a choice I will join the 145 FO before upgrading...

Is C5 using CVG for SIM's?

1. It might be a typo but we are trying to take delivery of 3 a month soon. So, it might be correct.

3. Correct, the 30% rule only applies to displacements and the number of available bidding spots for incumbent pilots, per company choice. Going forward, the company will likely waive seat locks to fill ERJ deliveries. FOs are not subject to any seat lock implied when upgrading.

4. If you are sharp and have a good work ethic, you can upgrade into an aircraft with zero time with minimal issues. It can and has been done, but it is a lot of work. On the positive side, they give you 10 sims before checkride and GFS before that; that is an absurd amount of training.
