Default IAD

so I have read some of the past responses and it seems some people are getting IAD out of training now. I will be a CQF when I get there initially and plan on moving to base. seems like IAD will be the better option between the two. Anyone with recommendations on where to look? I would love some info on the reserve schedule still. Might give me an idea of how easy it would be to commute.

FOs are getting IAD. CAs are still going to EWR.

Reserve schedule is you get 11 days off. The rest of the month you are the companies *****.

You bid for reserve preferences for the month and you can change them up to 5pm the day before. Except for the first day of a shift. That has to be in before 8am 2 days prior. They notify you by 9am 2 days prior for your first day and by 6pm the night before for the subsequent days. You will get am or pm shifts and usually 8hr airport reserve. Sometimes shortcall but rarely. With airport reserve you get per diem for the time.

As far as commuting Newark has more options usually. Dulles sucks to commute into because of limited flight options but is a better base to move to. Newark is expensive to live in.

Most JR Capt in IAD has is a Nov of 16 hire. I know there are several EWR Capt waiting to transfer to IAD as openings occur. I would hate to guess how long it would take hold IAD as a Capt as things are changing fast around here. It all depends on if IAD can grow as a base as been promised for the last year.

The earliest you can start reserve on day one is 11. That would allow you to commute in on day one depending on where you are coming from.

You need to show me where it says anywhere about 11am being the earliest. I’ve gotten 5am airport reserve on day 1 many times.

I don't have a reference. I was told that when I started and experience matched it so I just assumed it was true.

Unless they have been consistently violating the contract and I missed it (always possible),11am on your first day isn’t a guarantee. I have consistently gotten 5am airport reserve the first day. Also, until we start adding planes again expect reserve times to increase, something like 25 FOs are sitting at home waiting for IOE, with 30 something in training.

Check airman moving on + government shutdown not letting us sign check airman off = 200% days for current FOs, while newly typed FOs get time at home.

Speaking as one of the newly typed FOs enjoying some at-home time...

Company told me the issue with FOs being delayed isn't directly due to a lack of LCAs necessarily...it's that they're prioritizing CA OE because we're short CAs.

And to be honest I haven't seen much 200% for FOs lately...maybe one day during the recent snow. If they do give anything it's 150%. CAs on the other hand seem to be offered 200% every other day. Good to be a CA right now.

I just hope I don't have any problems consolidating.
