A Hall For The Hopefuls

And both Airbus through the purchase of 51% of the A220 and Boeing through the purchase of pretty much the entire civilian side of Embraer have signaled their intention to get in the "jumbo RJ" contest. It is possible, I suppose, that the major pilots will give ground in scope, but I doubt it, short of a bankruptcy contract.
Yet the increased fuel efficiency of these aircraft mean they are going to be flown by SOMEBODY because they are going to be money makers. That may be someone like Moxy, flying them on long thin routes, or it may be the majors (or perhaps Horizon since Alaska has no scope) flying them on the longer less thin routes that many regionals fly 70 and 76 pax aircraft on today.
Clearly, some flying currently done by regionals, especially the flying between major airports, will tend to gravitate to the larger more efficient aircraft. Does that mean the smaller codeshares go away? Probably not, but I do anticipate they will increasingly be competing with newer, increasingly efficient 100+ seat narrow bodies, whoever is flying them.
We'll see.

The 717 is still being leased till 2025, and then the lease is up and they assume it won't be renewed at that point.
The A220 has 90 firm orders now, with 50 of them being the 300 Model. That airplane really isn't designed to do 717/MD88 type of flying but you never know I suppose. They keep touting "Long and Thing" as the mission for that airframe.

Back when I was interviewed, it seemed like Compass was taking anyone with 1000 hours and 0 jet. Anyone hired lately care to share what experience they have? I have a couple friends with jet time not able to get a call.

There are markets that even 717/220s are too big, they want to get rid of DC, they have to get rid of small cities flying.

I’m starting to warm up to Word302.
On another note, probably best to not tell people to come here. Coming here as FO for a year, losing your job, and starting over somewhere else is *not* better than going some other place right off the bat. Not to mention OO (and others) pay a lot better and have job security, whereas compass has ‘meh’ pay and a 75% chance of closing shop in the next 2 years

That being said, Compass has been like that girl in high school that liked me but couldn't quite commit. I moved to Phoenix and started looking at Skywest, and Compass opens a Phoenix base. My hours start racking up and I apply to Compass, and they froze hiring. So I through an app over to Skywest, do the cadet thing, set up an interview for late December. Then Compass breaks a four month silence and offers me an interview mere days before Skywest. At the interview they offered a job but no date. A few days later, Skywest says "we'll call you." After the holidays, they call with a date. Within a week, Compass calls with a date basically identical to Skywest. I thought it was a fun little rollercoaster ride and it's been a tough choice. But I think I'm going to go over to skywest and relinquish my spot so another hopeful can take it. I mean, unless something comes up in the next week or so that reinvigorates Compass.
It was really tempting, even despite the rumors of losing flying. I like the smaller company, the bases, the type of flying, potential to move up in seniority, résumé-building opportunities, and most importantly the people. But since I'd be starting at 0 time part 121, I don't want to worry about only getting a year or two in and then have to start over at another regional or maybe try to get a LCC. I'm not one of those "I'll be at delta in 3 years" guys, so I want to be able to work my way up since I'll be at a regional for a while.
