So my dilemma like many other regional FOs contemplating lateral moves. How's MSP and DTW look for new hires to get out of training? Lax just wouldn't work for me to commute.
How's training with the home study? For FOs from other mega regionals that made the move how would you rate your QOL now?

You will probably be assigned LAX initially but will be able to hold MSP long before you actually get done with training. Vacancies every few days. DTW might be slow until the flows start leaving. Home study if your prior 121 is basically a month off! From my prior mega regional my QOL has improved almost unbelievably. People aren't negative here and the company is nice to you for the most part. Highly recommend coming here. As mentioned multiple times the flow math makes this a very smart choice versus other companies. Feel free to PM with any specific questions.
Is home study a paid period? How did you manage the living situation in MSP when you had to report for class after home study? On retrospect sure would be nice to have DL flight bennies again.

It's paid but not very much. Also most classes will have volunteers to rent out rooms to classmates by current MSP residents. I've also heard of guys getting crash pads and splitting hotels even.

Not everyone can be perfect
To answer the question about how much has QOL improved since moving from a different mega regional. I can attest that it's a night and day difference. Just the attitude of the flight crews makes life SO much better. There isn't the constant negativity, debbie downers, or complainers here. Pilots and flight attendants seems to be much happier here. No regional airline is great but this is the best out there I think.

Flows start leaving next month - the first class has been assigned 3/3. Expect significant movement for the next 4-5 months. One thing to watch for, however, is that MSP will be shrunk via flows - CPZ can avoid paying relocation by simply assigning newhires and upgrades to LAX.
I'm not saying to avoid Compass, but temper your expectations on how soon you could hold "not-LAX". It might be a few months before you can hold MSP and DTW, but there will be a huge amount of attrition for the next couple years.

Since we are talking bases, anyone have an opinion on which base would have the easiest commute from DFW while sitting reserve.

I'm happy to announce that I'll be joining the ranks at Compass. 2/27 is the date.
Previous 121 guy with some experience in 135 charter and some experience flying a desk in aviation (training dept). Looking forward to getting back in the cockpit and swinging gear and sharing tales. Also looking forward to the West Coast expansion - LAX will suit me as I'm in CO...anybody have knowledge of a decent crash pad out there? And anyone that will be in the 2/27 class have info or any plans for sharing a place? Odds are I'll look into an extended stay or a furnished room. PM me if you have some good 411.
I have used a Telex 750 & 850 in the dash 8 and citation, respectively...what's a recommended headset for the 170/175 that won't break the bank. I've used a Bose a20 in a PC-12NG and know the high end of the spectrum, but those stayed with the plane and I don't want to spend $1000 on headsets.
Looking forward to joining the gang.
