Your example has nothing to do with "set it and forget it" and everything to do with not monitoring and "flying" the airplane. My point is that the airplane is simple to fly compared to other 121 jets. Short checklists, many switches you never touch, very few memory items, little call outs, etc. If you compared the amount of information one would have to learn on the E175 say compared to a Mad Dog, a B737, or even a CRJ200, there is MUCH less.

So how are the "demographics" different? Do you have some specific data or is it just your private observation? Do you work in the training center or did you observe the lower quality of new hires on the line? I'm not trying to be a smart a**, it's an honest curiosity. I'm one of the new hires, so I want to know how I compare to the better "demographics" from 2007; or did I completely misunderstand your post?

In 2007 virtually everyone who came to Compass already held an ATP and came with previous experience from at least one prior airline. Many had multiple previous airlines. We had big iron pilots from Champion and ATA as they shut down, furloughs from United and American etc. Back then there were not a lot of places hiring out of work airline pilots and Compass collected a mix of out of work and stagnated at the bottom of their list airline pilots. They brought a lot of experience. With those applicants to choose from, 1500 hour cfi applicants rarely got calls. We still get a lot of good applicants with previous experience, but not enough to fill classes, so we are seeing more CFI time only applicants. Judging by the new f/o's that I have flown with, they are still hiring good people with brains and the right attitude, but the experience is definitely less.
