Is COVID-19 really that deadly.

I'm perplexed at how the public policy response to COVID-19 is not based on proven science.
At best, there is a scarcity of epidemiological data regarding the effectiveness of social distancing and wearing of masks, yet these two methods have become the primary means of containment. Modelling analysis is of questionable relevance, a particularly relevant example are the documented inaccuracies and volatility of the IHME COVID-19 output.
How can such initiatives be justified when there is no peer reviewed evidence that they are effective? Are we moving the goalposts because of politically charged emotion and confirmation bias?

The goal posts will move based on three factors: known science, forecasted/estimated science (which is an art form), will of the people.
The citizens are getting restless and stir crazy. This translates to the will of the people. Everyone staying at home doesn't improve our immune response. So, while it may be really bad to get people infected, it may be better for their immune systems to be exposed to it. The sooner we all get exposed, the smarter our immune systems become and the sooner man-kind can get back to work, school, and play.
While it would be great to have a vaccine to help our immune system we don't have one yet. maybe we never get one? I don't know, but the show must go on so to speak.

um. Right.. so my question about the age of the article is valid.
you seem to be arguing against the premise of article now - which is fine, but it might be better to contact the author for that
China is a sociopathic enterprise run by sociopaths ...it doesn’t matter when you write about it

Since we can’t trust the information coming from China, it’s time the west starts gathering information on our own. I hope that’s already happening behind the scenes.

I see what you’re saying, and I agree with you. However we need to have accurate information from China so we know what we’re dealing with with this virus, at least in the early stages. And as much as it seems this has been going on forever, we’re still in the early stages. It seems that China (except for maybe Wuhan) hasn’t been hit nearly as bad as Europe and the US, and we desperately need to know why. Maybe there’s something else going on here that’s not on the up and up.

Everyone else seems to be trying to get as many test kits available as possible, both for antibodies as well as infection

Dude, no one is attacking YOU...what you wrote is enough of an admission, no one needs to do anything but acknowledge it. That’s what you’re seeing...
You keep doing you, and we won’t try to reason with you. Fair enough?

Covid 19 isn't that deadly. And thanks to the media, our economy is trashed and millions are out of work. The final numbers will be out next spring or maybe late fall and we are all going to see how much this was sensationalized. ****

I just read an account by a physician who tested positive who was offered and took the same drugs, but afterwards was upset with himself because he wasn’t aware of the potential side effects depending on one’s other conditions and medications, which have caused fatalities. But it had no adverse affect for him and it’s great it worked out for you.
I hope the experts are able to collect all of this data and keep sharing it so we can do everything possible to bring medical mitigation and prevention into play as soon as possible. I wonder how we can distinguish those of us who’ve recovered from those of us who are still vulnerable, no one seems to have a good plan for that yet. It would reassure people (assuming they can even lock down whether someone recovered is truly immune, which we sure hope is the case)!
Thank you also for your positive attitude. It’s important to remember we humans are all on the same page and in this together, it would be great if everyone remembered that.
