Sleep cycle you can manage by bidding for that, if it's a priority.
Environmental exposure is the same as FA's, but less than rampers and plenty of workers in other industries. Few of them get paid what we do.
I don't think industry leaders consciously decided to pay DL WB CA's $1M per year just to keep the commuter pilots motivated. I do agree they're happy to take advantage of the situation

I see a ton of people on here discussing money. While I understand that money is obviously a factor in deciding on a career, the key factor needs to be your passion for flying. As cyclical as the industry is, money will come and go through your career. As some others have said, timing is everything, and some will make out better than others. At the end of the day it takes a real love for flying to put up with many aspects of the job and you can’t rely on money being the incentive to keep you going. If you do not love flying, and can not justify the lifestyle by the feeling you get from sitting in the cockpit of that jet, then it’s probably the wrong career for you.

airline industry is like working in the oil field. everybody is "rich" and driving new powerstroke diesel pickup trucks, this lasts a few years, then a downturn and they don't have two nickels to rub together and are wondering what a good "back up job" is.

Assuming you don't have any ratings or time, it will take a while to jump through the hoops and get your hours so take that into consideration. By the time you're done things may be in full swing again.

i wouldn’t start training until DPE’s are giving check rides again. I’m sure there is a backup, and if you are ready, you’ll just wait in line. Which will cost you money trying to stay “fresh” for the ride.
