I know a lot of people in business who were airline pilots at some point. The first guy I met like that was my insurance agent. I was flying for a regional at the time and he told me he was a furloughed UAL pilot who never went back. I couldn't understand why anyone would do that. As an older person now I understand. There are alternatives out there and they are not all that bad. Airline pilots usually drop out of aviation and melt back into the public never to mention their flying past. They usually end up owning a business of some kind. It's a common story.

Maybe try. to get a federal government flying job, or aviation related. those are pretty secure and have pensions.

People like you have always been around throughout human history and have always sucked. Climb into your holes during good times only to bring your weak self out during the bad times to spread your garbage. Too bad these days we have the internet to spread it even faster.
Before anyone listens to his crap, go read his post history.

I have a bachelors from Ohio State in aviation, looking at Gateway technical and community college. You can take Anatomy, psychology, chemistry, etc. online. Going to start mid May. If/when the hammer comes, I’ll just have some practical classes. The wife is a nurse practitioner, so I have free tutoring. I would look up local NCLEX pass rates in your local area. I don’t think ‘prestigious’ schools are worth it.

My take is nobody knows what and when things open. I don’t think many businesses can survive an extended shutdown. The FED can print more money but this could be the straw that breaks the camels back for the big ‘haircut’. The entire western world is collapsing under the weight of over promised entitlements and ****ty monetary policy.
Can the house of cards go back up and the Dow push 30K? It’s possible, but not likely. I think there will be a marginal sect of society, guessing 10-30% who will effectively never travel, eat out, go out again. An entire generation of shut-ins if you will. Hell young kids wouldn’t work before, the timid ones never will again.
So my macroeconomic forecast is:
—full on economic collapse: 4:1
– protracted deep economic recession 2:1
– house of cards blazing, Dow hits 30k 4:1

Barely a job? Any of us who make 1/4 million are not "barely working" with the exception of a handful of widebody captains on reserve who have about 25-30 years of seniority. If you don't know what you're talking about, you shouldn't pretend to.
Flying for Piedmont doesn't excuse that asinine post. I wasn't that clueless at the regionals and I was there a long time..."barely working". If that's how you really feel then you must suck at your job.
I am sorry but compared to working construction or working in retail or working in fast food or working any minimum wage job at all living out of a vehicle in the northeast with out a heater compared to commuting to work and getting a free ride. I think ill take commuting. It seems like there are a lot of pilots out there that complain oh this TA sucks or oh we had to take concessions but compared to working a real job i think i would take concessions. Its all relative i guess.

What a bummer. Anyway, the time to think about this is before it happens. ALWAYS have a skill to fall back on. It doesn't have to be high end, just something to pay bills and eat. Maybe your degree is marketable. Do you have a trade? If no to both, look at a "Quickie' skill. Maybe LPN, medical assistant and so on. Don't spend all your life at a regional either. Give it 10 good years or so and move on. Majors are for the under 40 or Mil. crowd. You will do long term financial damage to yourself hanging out in this career waiting for the call up. Then you will be furloughed again. The time you spend could be used to build a solid career and your own business. GOOD LUCK!

Side or furloughed income
I’m not sure where to post sorry if it’s wrong. Other than CV or riots and civil craziness, Any advise on where to start real estate investing possible vacation spots for potential eventual living or rental income? Maybe in HI or MIA or Another beach destinations. Is there a good way to learn the legal tax side of running AirBNBs part time rentals or possible Crashpad? Do you start with an LLC? Any ideas profit v time invested verse other investing or pure gambling? Any tax benefits or more of a hassle? I could start while furloughed then convert to a side business later.
