So we don't have much in the way of data to suggest that airlines, airport or travel is a huge driver of infection, versus, say communal living in nursing homes/prisons/etc.

We also know there are plenty of populations who are ignoring all social distance and public gathering guidelines.

So, the plan is really really monitor/inconvenience/economically hinder the generally compliant populations under the theory that the non-compliant populations are non-compliant anyway?

And that would be different from the way our wonderful government has always operated, how?

Nice choice, America.

You mean continue what they have been doing? Why would they change? Just because it hasn't affected our industry yet doesn't mean that millions of Americans haven't been unfairly hit economically during this whole goat rope.

There was SOME international travel. Now people are afraid to
go because of the draconian re-entry requirements. It’s almost impossible to get the required test and what of you test positive? Now what. So whatever international travel that there was has dried up. We used to have full flights to and from Mexico. Now empty.

Flew two PACKED round trips to CUN earlier and the place was alive and open with tourists. I wouldn’t even consider going international with my family now. Even for the hotels which cover the testing AND the quarantine room costs. The thought of being stuck anywhere for 14+ days as our positive tests waterfall every 4-9 days. I would say all but a handful of buddies or jetsetting couples would feel the same way.

Yet strangely enough, the Big Three (and especially United) were pushing for this.

Do you think they see the writing on the wall with SWA and the ULCCs leading the comeback and want general bankruptcy for the whole industry to allow their own CBAs to be reset at Allegiant levels?

Question of the year.

I wish I knew, as it appears to be government mandate and not customer fear which is preventing a meaningful airline recovery.

1) Airline management feels insolvency at this point is inevitable and the quicker it happens the more leverage they have?

2) Airline management feels government money is assured to ensure solvency the worse things get? Socialize the losses, privatize the profits?

I’m aware my two theories are contradictory. I have no idea.

Between the absurd vaccine roll out, Fauci out there today saying those who are vaccinated shouldn’t feel free to travel, possible domestic covid testing requirements, and continued fear mongering from the media, we’ll be lucky to see any significant change in travel numbers this summer over last. Those who said at the beginning any quote recovery would be in the five year plus range are looking to me like they are probably correct.

There is some pretty confusing messaging going on right now, that's not helping.
