Sounds like the major argument against lockdown or other restrictions is that the poverty issue will be worse than the virus.
It's funny seeing people say this is some right wing conspiracy theory then ignore the humanitarian crisis. I've probably written it here before but earlier this year (March or April IIRC) the UN said that 250 Million people would face starvation, an increase of 130 Million- directly as a result of lockdowns and other restrictions. I haven't seen updated numbers from those estimates, but when we're talking about doubling poverty globally, you'd think that would factor into the calculation of lives saved or ruined.

It has been pointed out here and on other threads many times but gets shouted down by the lockdown to save my 88 year old mother crowd.

It's strange times where science is only "good" if it's politically convenient. Well maybe not, but you can't claim to believe science and in the same breath deny it.

There are plenty of well qualified epidemiologists that agree with the main tenants of the Great Barrington Declaration.
At the height of the main wave of COVID it was estimated 85% of those infected do not need medical treatment of any kind. Surely that number is even significantly higher now. Just France alone is measuring over 30,000 cases per day and their COVID deaths have actually declined so far this month.
Many states have opened up almost fully for a good two months now and Fauci’s “fears” have yet to come to fruition.
I’m perplexed so many people trust him as measurable reality doesn’t seem to confirm much of what he says.

Dr. Fauci strikes me as another dishonest politician.

Government officials, no matter their credentials, are political. I prefer to look other places for unbiased data to make my decisions about how I will react to any situation.

One of the authors of the Great Barrington Declaration responds to British government criticism:

It’s a shame well thought out arguments get dismissed by Dr. Fauci and politicians.

Everyone focuses on the trees and they completely miss the forest. Yes herd immunity would be nice, and a vaccine too, but the facts with respect to the pandemic are that once the medical professionals determined the best courses of treatment and the most vulnerable are protected the death rate has plummeted to the point that lockdowns and travel restrictions are useless and cause way more harm than good. Lost years of life from the lockdowns has long ago exceeded the lost years of life due to the virus.
They are making political arguments now not medical ones.
