But guess what... you can bid the C series even if you are frozen on the 320 because it is a new category. That is risky though because it could very well go senior. Point is to reiterate is that this is nothing more than a little slowdown. Probably the worst thing is having to go thru Va Ave again.

In cases of uncertainty like a new category or expanding category, it is always a good option to select a relative percentage or number in category as a qualifier in the bid. Additionally, you have the option to convert after junior pilots. This is especially useful in new or expanding categories. It saves you from being at the bottom of the category while they train the junior pilots.

When they are shortstaffed in ANY category there are lots of greenslips that go out because they need pilots to fly the schedule so the incentive is double pay to fly on a day off. With new categories, until they get enough guys trained to cover the schedule, they will be shortstaffed and inevitably pay greenslips. That can also happen in categories with a high turnover like the 717. Ask some of your compadres that might be on that jet what the greenslip coverage is like. Or better yet, you can look it up on iCrew yourself. Just go to the Open Time menu and look at daily trip coverage. Anyone that has a G#1 is on their first double pay trip. G#2, second. etc... The 350 has guys getting inverse assignments with conflict because of the staffing.

Not quite. Anyone can bid into a new category, but they’ll have to take the remainder of their current seat lock and tack it on to the new seat lock. The only way to eliminate a seat lock entirely is through a displacement.

Only new hires (after 1 year) and first-time Captains tack on remaining category freezes to a new award.
