“No. 330NEO is cheaper and can do everything the 350 can”
That’s what I was answering to. The 330 Neo may be a better fit for Delta than the 350 but stating that the 330Neo “can do everything the 350 can” is simply not correct.
You bring some interesting points. Can you elaborate how does 6300 NM range translate into 5500Nm? Do we have a different seating configuration?
Also you wrote that I was comparing the shorter range 350-900. I just read that, in 2018, Airbus was able to increase the winglet size and gained a 1% fuel efficiency which lead to an range increase of 100nm. So it’s now 8200nm for the 900.
Then, there is the ULR at 9700. What other variants of the 900 are there?

Real world useable range is often far less than quoted ranges. The current base A330-300 is heavily restricted on TLV to JFK but using quoted ranges it should be easy. Even the 10 increased gross weight aircraft have restrictions. The A330-900 Delta is getting adds only 300 miles in range over the current 242 tonne 330-300’s. There is a proposed but not available version that adds 500 more miles but is going to need a long, low and cold runway.
On the A350 range issue here is a pretty good summary. Delta I believe has the 272 tonne version but guys flying it can give the exact number.

They are putting a bunch of money into the 777’s so retirements are probably a long way off.

Just speculation, but not just from this crowd. Several aviation website think that we bought those planes. Airbus showed an additional 10 A330neos sold, but didn't announce the buyer.

Color me cynical but it’s just too convenient that we deferred 10 350’s (with talk at the time they would be converted to 330neo’s) and now are ordering 10 330neo’s? I’m betting it’s a swap and not a gain. Yeah, I know not official yet.
I’m thinking there will be a bigger overall widebody order some time in the next couple months, possibly in January.
