76 hours at 12-year pay with 10% profit sharing grosses one about $50k/year more as 73NA over 777B. The ones I see willing to make that jump, give up seniority and work significantly harder for $50k/yr (all or much of which could be eclipsed with some GS action as 777B) are those who are tired of being or becoming brain-dead and/or have recently become empty nesters.

Yes, I'm stereotyping here based purely on what former 777Bs share with me. I do not have this choice to make myself and obviously can't speak for the masses.

Which one is right? Also, in the video on Skyhub he said there would be 15 ATL 777B vacancies.
Great observation. It makes sense to have 15 vacancies to offset the LAX displacements. Maybe someone brave enough to post on Skynet will ask the question.

right, for most of those guys it's not worth it going from 1 leg every few days to 2+ legs a day up and down dealing with weather etc....

It doesn't even take a GS. That 50K/ year equates to roughly 16 hours/month. One swap with the pot from a low time trip to a high time trip every other month will make up that time. You can get 92 hours on the 777 in less days than it takes to get 76 hours on the 73N. Some guys regularly credit over 100 hours at straight pay due to the amount of high credit trips.

The break even point for 777B or 350B happens somewhere around mid level 7ERA or junior 330A. Some pilots bid the upgrade earlier purely for the enjoyment of flying with their favorite captain. Others get tired of the time zone changes and upgrade for a normal sleep schedule.

Any ATL ER FOs care to weigh in on what they like/dislike about the flying, deliberating about whether or not to try for it on this AE or shoot for the bus in the future...I know it will be retired probably within the next 7-10 years but have always been intrigued by it and wanted to fly it. Thanks

Both good lifestyles. But which one would you regret not doing if you retire in 7-10 years? Idk your background but say you always wanted to fly international and haven't, if you'd regret not giving it a try, then bid it.

The 7ER is a good place to evaluate the type of flying you like best. The fleet has the widest variety of trips in the system. There are 2 leg 4 day trips to SA, 3 or 6 day Europe, 1 leg/day transcons or 4 leg days. Look through the bid packs and wide reports to see what your seniority holds. If you like variety, look no further. The 330 is much more limited in the variety, so it may not be a good choice if you are unsure about long haul.

That is a good point. I deal with weather so much I cherish the days where it is just clear everywhere and visuals on both ends of each leg.

He said the 7ER will be retired in 7-10 years, not himself
