He has a real issue with JetBlue for some reason.
I need to start working on my logbook as apparently my company won’t make it.

Thread resurrection!

Looking for some of the internet’s patented good advice/intel.
Expecting a July class date, live w/in driving distance of NYC, 42 y/o. Family.
At JB for three years and sitting at 65% in JFK on the Bus. Upgrade is years away, upgrade with a line probably eight years away. Currently 3600/4500 system wide. I’ll be 57 years old before I’m top 2000. That said, life is good, enjoy my schedules for now, but I’ll be junior for another 18 years.

The WidgetSeniority site is awesome, and I’m very appreciative of it. However, I’d like to correlate it to some real world data. According to WS, it will take just over four years to sit 63% in NYC on the 73, but on the threads here, it sounds like you can be 60% in less than a year. Where’s the truth? Same with 320.
Goal is to upgrade earlier than I would at JB, or sit NYC WB/B reserve. If I go be WS, I won’t be able to sit 765B until June 2028 (and I realize new hires have recently gotten it).

Also, 320 vs 73N… which has less redeye flying? Does either do more Caribbean than the other?

Thank you!

The truth is that you will move up very quickly on the NYC NB. Hordes will bid out every AE to be replaced by new hires also looking to get the hell out of there. You will get to 50-60% quite rapidly and then forward progress will slow to something more understandable as you hit the solid number of guys on the first two pages of the category list who aren't going anywhere until they upgrade. WB is a bit more problematic. As the world continues to open, WB will most likely continue to get more senior to include the 765B as it's returned to international. There are 155 321neos coming which will give a lot of progression to that fleet. The 73 could change into that at the drop of a hat should a MAX buy ever be announced. A wild card to all of this will be the announcement of a 320 BOS base which will suck all of the senior BOS shuttle guys from the A side north leaving a gaping hole in NYC for the intrepid bidder looking to stick his face in something sharp. Bottom line: if you are a committed NYC guy, the world is your oyster seniority wise as you will get the chance to bid into positions you will not be able to hold for years at another base. Currently: I think the 73 does more Caribbean flying. Not a huge amount of red eyes on either.

The truth is you won't know until you get there. Not meant to be a trite answer, but there is a recession looming. Delta (and all airlines) will hire right up until they furlough. (Been there, got the Tshirt) IF you get hired here, I would build a furlough fund from day 1 and not worry about anything else. And if you want advice from someone that has seen this for the last 30 years, then mine to you is to plan very very conservatively. Live WELL within your means, and don't go spending money like a member of congress because you can't print more when you run out. Wait until you have been a captain awhile before you buy that captain house.

Debt is slavery.

Appreciate the unsolicited advice on finances, but I’m not a noob.
After two decades and multiple airlines, I’ve been through two furloughs and am debt free save my <$2000 mortgage. But thanks for telling me how to spend my money.

Okay, much more in line with that I expected. I figured the bottom 50% was a churn. I don’t have a lot of desire to fly WB (did five years of it already), just want the option of sitting reserve on it at some point. Thanks for the intel.
