I’ll unwind it today on my end if able. I promise.

A few questions to those who were furloughed in the past (I realize the environment has changed but curious what the mindset and thinking should be). Seeing how everyone in the industry is feeling the same pain, just planning for Plan B and Plan C.

1. Was finding another flying job a challenge? Did anyone consider going back to flying RJs or freight?

2. Is it more beneficial to look at jobs, apply before furlough, and potentially take a voluntary to be on the front side of the wave to get another flying job?

3. Theoretical Question...Does or will ALPA work on agreements with our RJ partners to hire pilots from DL?

4. if you didn’t go back to a flying job during furlough, what did you do?

5. If you take a voluntary furlough, can you comeback when your seniority # is called or do you wait until all the involuntary furloughs are back?

TIA

And as much as I hate to admit it, masks will do the same too.
In my commute (not delta) I’m
seeing over 2/3 loads. Mask rule not in effect yet. People grumble about the close seating but no blow ups. Yet.

Masks

I'm in LA county and one observation I've made is a solid HALF (if not more) of the mask wearers I've seen do it improperly. Nose exposed because the mask is slightly pulled down. Probably so they can breathe easier. Mouth uncovered. Mask hanging from chin. Mask bands not properly placed, keeps mask loose and sliding down. Touching their mask and adjusting it constantly. Touching their nose and eyes.

I'll just be honest and say masks at this point are nothing more than a visual confirmation and appeasement that we are doing 'something' in order to feel safe about the virus when we go out. It sure as heck doesn't look effective the way it's being done right now!

Maybe, but I think it's a numbers game, where half is still somewhat beneficial, as opposed to an all or nothing/perfection or failure type of thing. I believe in general our culture needs to be less binary in our thinking. It squashes critical thinking and openness to new ideas.

That visual confirmation is what passengers are concerned with going forward regardless of the "effectiveness" of the masks. We need those passengers to feel safe so they can fly and let us keep our jobs. So I'm all for it if it means getting more peeps on our planes.

Which is exactly why the Surgeon General was exactly correct in saying wearing masks can actually increase the likelihood of spread, before the CDC caved. I too have seen a very large percentage 'wearing' a mask that does zero good, and worse, constantly adjusting it.

Having said that, I'll gladly play along with the charade at work if it gets folks flying again.
