First, there is no such thing as a county mayor. Second, I looked, and couldn't find any source that said they should stay closed until a cure is found.

You are just saying places. I just looked. Gov of Michigan is allowing bars, restaurants and retail to open this weekend. Until you can give me an actual official source saying we should keep it closed until a cure, I'm done responding.

Sorry it’s not full scale house arrest, just enough to keep bleeding the economy to death.

Here’s what the Oregon Department of Education says. They are laying the groundwork for not reopening fully next year. You’ll notice that this is only about “staying safe” from the virus and has nothing to do with flattening a curve.
“We will be living with the virus until there is immunity, which is many months off.
The primary tools we have to keep our students, families, staff, and communities safe are physical distancing and hygiene.
Every restriction that is lifted increases transmission and will increase cases.”

This is a common defense of Fauci and public health in general, and it’s utter nonsense. How can you completely divorce public health from the entire social and economic systems? “Oh, my job is just to worry about public health, not all those other things like employment, education, healthcare (FFS!), social well-being, exercise, etc.” As if they have nothing to do with “public health!”

To me that CDC guidance is completely irresponsible. They are making recommendations from a position of authority, that quite frankly are impossible for schools to follow. And there will be states that keep their public schools closed because of it. Education will be only for the Uber rich that can afford it. Look at the bus riding recommendation. Imagine if we were forced to do that on our planes, we would be shut down or government run. And this is the LEAST VULNERABLE of our population. And the CDC put out yesterday that transmission from surfaces is extremely difficult. That goes against many of the other recommendations in the above link.

Oh, and since we are now suddenly experts that a shutdown is killing everyone, several studies published in the 2000s have attributed a decreased general mortality rate with an increase in unemployment and other recession markers. People decrease poor health behaviors like heavy smoking, drinking and eating out and increase behaviors like exercise, eating better portioned and healthier meals and reduced drinking/smoking.
