Thats roughly how I read it. The “7000 over staffed” followed by the more “2-3 thousand” Overstaffed “AE” memo wasn’t an accident. Makes the second number look less scary.

Assuming, of course, this isn’t only Round One of “right sizing”.

I think they are looking to scare us into making concessions. Yes, we are going to furlough, but as much as United is?
Doesn't make sense. I'll be looking for my "UNA" here shortly. Cheers all.

I don’t think the cuts need to go that deep. The memo says it’s a reduction of about 2500 active positions. Not an insignificant number.

As one of those I’m biased, but my first read is no. Depends on the bidding of the displaced widebody pilots and how many people come to NYC.

And it depends on what NYC even becomes.

Again, 2500 to 3500 over what's required for min schedule doesn't mean 2500 to 3500 furloughs.

1. Multiple people on sick leave, mil, personal, SLI, Management pilots, etc.

2. Those numbers are for 2021...not 2022. Furloughing people fall 2021 to bring them back spring 2022 makes no sense.

If we do furlough my money is on 1000 to 2000 at most.

Minor issue with your point 2 - they wouldn't be cutting those people in 2021, they'd be cutting them this Oct, so they'd be out roughly 18 months if they're needed back in early 2022.

Minor issue to your point. There’s no way to train all the pilots required to fly all the NB by Oct 1.

Yeah, holy training turn batman. And that also generated by all the displacements in a year. Then to retrain to the recalls....insane. What's the cost of all that? How much are going to spend to save?
