I don't understand why anyone wears headsets above FL180.

I'm guessing you are either deaf or fly Airbus.

Do you mind turning your mic off, I can hear you chewing and breathing? Or tell me a good lie/story.

Or I wear earplugs from pushback to shutdown. I've been going it for 20 years. Very comfortable. Perfect hearing.

To save your hearing? Better hear radio calls?

Maybe it's different on the Airbus, but in my experience the pilots on the 737 that remove headsets above FL180 consistently miss 2x-3x more radio calls than those with headsets on.
