Another poster asked for the cliff notes. I gave the cliff notes. The study showed a correlation between distancing and mask wear against reduced transmission. Maybe I misread it, but it seemed that the timeline was the same, the differences were between different geographical areas. You can read it and draw your own conclusions.
The bigger question I don't see addressed is which factor (masks or social distancing) had more effect? If masks were completely ineffective but everyone stayed 100ft apart then the data would be the same as if masked worked 100% and everyone was right next to each other...

Yeah, that would be nice if the data was separated.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
It's an excellent study, the first to correlate mask wearing rates to the spread rate Rt. This study did the same thing I did, downloaded data from rtlive, and modeled it against mask wearing rates from surveymonkey(I used yougov). There is one problem with their study, they assume everyone can get Covid. However, the important point is that mask wearing probably favors the odds of reducing Rt. Thing is, that reduction only buys you a few weeks of extra time. We reached peak Covid in the first week of January, had no masks been worn, we would have reached peak cases earlier in December. The number of cases would have been the same, because the virus self limits around the 20% threshold.

The failure in this pandemic was state governments not controlling nosocomial spread in early last year.

They were. They were sent to nursing homes...

I read in there that state mask mandates increased number of cases.....

Where did you see that? I saw that mandates didn’t correlate to higher mask wear, but I missed it leading to higher case numbers.

Here is the recent chart based on CDC data. The chart for Florida looks very similar with mandate counties well ahead of non mandate counties.

I posted the one from the Czech Republic who was praised because of low cases due to 100% mask wear. They are blowing past the USA in cases. If they did even partially what is claimed, there is no way that could be true.

I am not saying the masks increase cases, but it seems like every time a news source or Fauci points (pointed) to a country or state as “following the science” you really only had to have waited 2 weeks to see that blow up. New Mexico anyone?

I take it back. I’m just a pilot, “segmented regression analysis” that failed to “change the slope”..... they jumped from transmission to mask wear in the same paragraph.... More careful reading seems like what they are saying is mask mandates have little to no affect on mask wearing. Like you said. They weren’t talking transmission at all there.

Again, just a pilot.... for years we’ve been hearing too much hand sanitizer use decreases your bodies ability to fight off diseases. Maybe repetitive small exposures let’s your body learn to fight this thing without getting ICU sick. Get a big dose of it with no previous exposure, you’re screwed.... but I just wiggle the sticks....

I assumed I missed it for that reason. Scientific doesn’t make for easy reading.
