Every drop is different, and every class is going to have a different mix of people from different parts of the country with different aims when it comes to their first aircraft assignment. In general, NYC goes junior, and in general, the lower paying aircraft go junior. The 220 and 717 are also junior (in addition to those being the 2 lowest paying fleets) because they are the most limited when it comes to base choices. Starting on the 320 or 737, even in NYC, you can move to basically any other base in the airline on your first bidding opportunity. Having said all that, someone here said recently that the 757 went quite junior in their particular class.

Also, it seems like since they delayed the expected January bid back to February or March that they are now widening the range of openings (just look at the drop for this next class) since they are both running out of unfilled NYC spots from the last AE and need bodies to fill other bases that originally would have been coming quickly from transfers out of NYC had a bid happened this week.

In the end all you can do is hope for the best, and when you get your particular drop bid what you want.

You would presume wrong. Lots of posts in this thread about this. It’s entirely dependent on your class and the people in them. Sometimes 717s go junior, sometimes it’s 220s. The last class, the 7ER went junior. Couple classes back, it was the 320.

There are advantages and disadvantages to every fleet, just depends what the priorities of your classmates are.

I'm 19xx and want an east coast, possibly even a *gasp NY plane. So yeah I am holding out hope that there is enough spread around to get close. My buddy in this week's class said no one got worse than their 8th choice.

220 schedules depends on base. NYC has horrific commutable trips for both, 220 rotations are insanely repetitive. Lots of Texas, ORD, MSP etc.... At least 320 has lots of variety and over the years will continue to get better destinations. Expect reserve as junior man on both really.

well... They've been doing that for months off the same AE. So now it's fill the numbers elsewhere while NYC slots were exhausted. Until a new AE comes out I don't see any way we got back to the all NYC classes, I mean how.many slots are left based off our last AE? If anyone has the math. More logical solution is stop doing all NYC classes with like 3 people getting ATL or SEA or something. We need to spread it out over all classes.

Or don't and run fat in NYC while the rest of the operation is ran on green slips in hope your employees continually do them......... Lol

My last four start at/near the bottom and I was fortunate to get my top pick. No way to game the system or know where you rank in the class. And, there might be classmates who want certain locations you don't. Fill it out with what you'd like and hopefully you'll get your top 50%.

What’s a better choice, LAX 7ER or 737? Assuming said person lives near LAX.
