You are definitely confused.
Yes a new hire could get any plane based on ATL.
And yes, most likely start on Reserve.
But you can actually bid to other planes after two year initial seat lock (after one year in special situations) and you can always break seat lock if awarded initial Capt seat.
Lastly, Summer of 2017 hires would be 98-99% in the left seat of both 320 and 737 in ATL, so 5 year point.

If you live in base, reserve is fine. You can't start before 10am-12pm on Day one and in most cases the trips you'll be awarded are going to be better than being forced into a junior line where you WILL get hot garbage for the whole month.
