Yes a new hire could get any plane based on ATL.

And yes, most likely start on Reserve.

But you can actually bid to other planes after two year initial seat lock (after one year in special situations) and you can always break seat lock if awarded initial Capt seat.

Lastly, Summer of 2017 hires would be 98-99% in the left seat of both 320 and 737 in ATL, so 5 year point.
Just to be clear, these guys took 5 years to hold a line as CA then?

Depends. And with the amount of hiring coming, those numbers are going to be in constant flux, and depends on the bidding patterns of people senior to you.

Actually, in some categories the junior pilot was forced into a line, not reserve. Yes, reserve can be that good here.

No….maybe….

These 2017 hires that got ATL 737/320 left seat are at 98-99% in the category….whether they get awarded a REG line or have to sit RES depends on how much flying get assigned to their base and what the senior guys bid.

There have been certain bases/plane combos where the senior guys bid RES and the plug of the category gets a REG line.

Looking back several months, the bottom several pages of ATL 320 Captain were all on reserve.

If you live in base, reserve is fine. You can't start before 10am-12pm on Day one and in most cases the trips you'll be awarded are going to be better than being forced into a junior line where you WILL get hot garbage for the whole month.

Thanks everyone for your input! I’m about 1 year out from applying and trying to figure it all out.
