2 straight drops with 330B's available. Would anyone be able to give some of the pros and cons of the 330 v the 73/320 for a new hire, aside from the obvious such as longer upgrade times and slower seniority movement? My end goal is MSP base so those 3 fleets would be the only ones I would be interested in out of indoc.

As of right now, it will take a looooooooong time to hold MSP 330. I think the plug is a 2016 hire, maybe 2017? I’m seeing around 8400 to hold it, and I think current newhires are 15400.

Be a long time to be the plug on one of those fleets in MSP

But if you don’t mind commuting for 2 years to get it out of your system and then bidding NB, then it’s worth it.

and since the 330 has a MSP base you won’t be breaking seat lock early

FYI, NY 330B has been available most drops recently (there is a separate debate as to how long that will continue). However, it has never been an option in MSP, probably our most senior base. Junior MSP 330 B is about 6000 pilots off the bottom. That’s easily 5-10 years of future hiring.

If MSP is your goal asap, don’t bid the 330 as a NH. 320 & 73N are about equal seniority in MSP, about 6-9 months after hiring.

Check out widgetseniority.com. It’s free for prospective and new hires.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. Thats probably all the convincing I need to not bid for the 330 right away as much as I would enjoy the WB flying

For me personally, NB in base > WB commute. I know many who don’t agree, I just hate commuting. Take 320 now and it’ll be an easy swap to 330 MSP when the time comes, and if you really have an itch for WB, you can bid 330 NYC when your lock is up with better seniority.

Yeah I have done the commuting in the past and avoiding that really would be my main goal at the end of the day. I am currently flying pt 91 on a large cabin bizjet and I fear the international flying is what I'll miss the most. But I could always use the flight bennies to scratch that itch and enjoy the ride from the back for that haha

You will work harder but be more comfortable on the 320 (more legs/day.) You will be less comfortable but enjoy transcons and the occasional all-inclusive beach layover on the 737. Pick your poison.
It should be noted that this will continue to change as more neo’s are delivered. Starting this June and continuing into the fall, nearly all of JFK-SAN/LAS/SEA/PHX transitions onto the neo.

The last AE had openings and it was awarded just over a 10,000 number. It’s finally hit 5 digit numbers. By his conversion though he will be back in high 9k’s. That AE also had 15 openings. With the 330 growth coming it should continue to stay in that range. That’s about 4-5 years.
