There is no such thing as city pairs at DAL, we are too big an operation for those.
And flying here changes fleets/bases all the time. One month you have, one month it was given to someone else, next month it’s on another plane. Even when ER had Hawaii we had months where it was random 3 weeks on -400 or even 737. Definitely do not bid an airplane for layovers or base for layovers.

I guess unless it’s 350 since some routes they have no other choice. Hell I’ve seen 763’s take over 330 routes when they got strapped for planes or pilots for a bid period or two. Delta is not consistent with this stuff at all. I kinda like it. You never really know what you’ll get the next month. Some are great bid packages and some months you are lurking everywhere for the good trips.

It seems like DTW isn't a very senior base. With a middle of the pack SSN, what are my chances of getting assigned DTW immediately? If not immediately, think it's doable on the next AE? Obviously, I'd put equipment DTW doesn't have (765, 7ER) at the very bottom of my preferences...

Very doable. 717, 320 and 73N are the way. Add the 220 to your avoid.

I know the last drops are mega classes. Planes are assigned off the last 4 of the SSN. Does it go in order? Like 9999, 9899, 7823, 7628, etc. I'm screwed having a 3XXX number, but it is a higher 3 (39XX). Trying to gauge where I might fall in a class. I know there is no way of knowing, but I have to say that is probably my biggest hang up on leaving where I am. I fear being stuck on the 737 which I hate, or the 717 and have the fast upgrades come to a halt. Does anyone have an idea the SSN assigned on some of the last drops. Trying to judge where I might fall, but again, I know it's based on the SSN in my class. How feasible is it to get a 320 out of any base (prefer DTW) with a low SSN based on how planes have been assigned in the past classes?

Yes that’s exactly how it works ie. 9999 9998, etc.

Low numbers aren’t alway bad as you can imagine in a class of 100 there is going to be a large markup of people wanting to get bases all around.

The only thing that’s guaranteed as of now to go to say 9999 and 9998 is the 330/350.

I don’t have a crystal ball but don’t come here to be disappointed if upgrades slow down. Now with the amount of people we are hiring, plane deliveries, and retirements I’m sure the pipeline to upgrade won’t dry up quickly. May take longer since there’s a lot of people that have been hired in the last 2.5 year.

To get the 320 out of any base won’t be tough. DTW and 320 now that’s just a gamble on what the drop is.

Good luck if you choose to come here, but don’t be so nervous to come here where a plane decides whether or not you come

With any airline opportunity, you have to look at the big picture. Worrying about where you will stack up and which airplane you may be assigned seems very short-sighted in my opinion. Some airlines use age for seniority determination while others some other processes such as DAL apparently. There is no way to predict the SSN fallout in the class and/or what people might bid. Bid what you want and hope for the best. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

3XXX isn’t that bad. If you’re really afraid to fly the 73 or 71 put the 220 (if it’s available) above those jets and suck it up for a year (plus time to convert). There are 2 ways to break a seat lock that are outlined pretty well on here. There’s a pretty good chance you’d get DTW out of class or soon after. Good luck!

Alternatively, you could apply, get the CJO, wait until the class drop comes and then permanently burn the bridge if you don’t like what you get.

I will never understand the mentality of worrying about stuff like this. You got a shot to work at a legacy, the best one of the legacies, but you’re not coming (or at least not happy) if you have to fly the 73 for two years and then bid off of it. Just a sign of the times I guess.

This. What a sign of the times that people would consider turning down a Delta CJO because they don't like the drop.
