Back in 2006-2007 timeframe, I was a mad dog FO. I had a rushed commute, I hit some unexpected traffic and my first flight had seats but the second was oversold with jump seat taken. I got to parking lot in time grabbed my bags and hustled to catch airport shuttle. Once on the shuttle I realized I left my hat in my trunk. Oh well. I get to jetway for my first working leg a few hours later and I’m in the jetway as the pilots come off. ( Delta had asked the LCA’s to enforce the hat policy because a lot of pilots weren’t wearing them). An LCA comes off the plane and looks at me, looks at the top of my suitcase to see if there is a hat there, then looks back at me with disgust and says “Where’s your hat?” I politely explained my stressful commute and that I forgot it in my trunk. He says “Well, don’t do that again! I’m an LCA and they want us to make sure you guys are wearing your hat.” I said “Don’t do what again? Don’t make every effort to make it to work on time? Or don’t accidentally leave something behind?”

He took a deep breath and walked away. The FA’s were getting off the plane and saw the altercation. As I’m getting my bags situated in the cockpit, the jetway phone starts ringing. I’m thinking there’s no way he already reported me to the CPO, but I answered the phone because I was the only one down there at the time. It was the lead FA calling from the gate desk. She said “Prepare yourself to get a call about this. We just spent two days flying with him and he is an @sshole. Good luck.”

I never heard anything about it, but don’t think Delta won’t try to fight back.

Reminds me of a story a 88 Captain once told me a story about how a LCA stopped him for now wearing his "hub cap" in the terminal and said "Where's your hat, captain", he said "In my bag, it's too small and hurts my head", supposedly the LCA then said "why don't you get a bigger hat" to which the Captain supposedly said, "I have one, but it doesn't fit well in my bag".

Mods, what do you say we lock this thread down and you give us all this guy’s room number for a blanket party?

Does anyone else see this "idea" that we actually will have any control over our future/present uniform really amount for a wedge for divisions that Mgmt can let simmer throughout the pilot group as we supposedly negotiate a contract?

I’m guessing hat is staying around because a majority of pilots indicated they want the hat to be part of the uniform. I have to say I’m one of them. Don’t necessarily enjoy wearing it, but it does set us apart from other airlines in a good way IMHO.

This exactly. I stated such in the survey.

Am I worried about a divided pilot group? Yes. Do I think opinions or jokes about the hat will be a legitimate wedge issue? Not in the slightest...

All you anti-hatters will soon be cancelled. The uniforms will not change. Death, taxes and the titanic uniform are certainties. You may get the beard to go with it though. Outside the aircraft I am conducting a perpetual exterior preflight. If I can see the condition of the tail from the ground then the vantage point from 2 concourses away is for checking the bubble antenna for frost.

No you didn’t. No one here believes that any of our customers stopped what they were doing to tell you that they liked your little hat.

Neither one bothers me. Actually I think the hat with no jacket looks silly.

While I don't like the hat I'd rather get rid of ties with short sleeve shirts than to get rid of the hat.

Ties with short sleeve shirts are absolutely asinine and indefensible. Military "summer" dress uniforms don't have ties. Do they look "unprofessional"? What other profession wears ties with short sleeve shirts outside of us and Dilbert cartoon satire?

I will gladly look like a submarine captain so long as we ditch these stupid *******ing face diapers. Would love to see Delta throw it's weight at the CDC and Old Man River

Dammit, I want flight suits! Maybe helmets!

Ended with being asked about the hat and PB said the hat is still in our future. As expected! Maybe we’ll get beards …

Hats I think will be optional, no way most of the pilot group wants them unless they screwed with the numbers to make us wear them.
