I wonder what our bids would look like if reserve included unlimited 14 hour short calls, sliding off days and airport standby?

I also wonder what they would look like with monthly vacancy awards with 90 day conversion windows. FC deadheads or 150% pay for middle seat DH. And crew meal policy that actually works? When was the last time you flew 3 legs with 50 min turns and plane swaps at each turn and staring at 50 people ahead of you in line at McDonald’s?

Yes, their reserve system is terrible. But they literally kill us in almost every other QoL aspect. Oh, they get actual nice cars for their trans to/from hotel. Like town cars and Yukon’s. Skyhop is great! What day does the 4th floor get to go hone for the holidays this year?

170 unfilled 777/787 FO in SFO, DCA, EWR
2 year Captains in DEN (used to be 2 years just to get FO in Denver)

Another bid supposed to be out in January or February.
New hires to likely be awarded 787/777 FO in new hire training.
Everyone with 500 hours on property and off probation can hold Captain.”

Not saying things are not good here at DL by any stretch but WOW!

if we are supposed to hire 4,000 pilots in the next 2-3 years I think it might only be a matter of time before crazy things like this start happening here.

crazy world
While not to this level, I think we're already seeing similar trends here at DAL. It's all symptoms of how crappy QOL of life is between contracts, optimizers, and FAR 117. The only "control" we have is staying senior in a seat, or picking a base/fleet that can't be as optimized.

I was on the Maddog for almost 4 years, and now the 320 for almost 4. I think I can confidently say that my QOL on the Bus is less now, than the MD then. 4 leg days sting a lot more with a couple of 2+ hour legs, and then lead to an 11-12 hour layover.... On average all trips signing in earlier and releasing later. I'm standing by for the "sorry we ran a little too hot, we won't do it again" email.

330 here I come

You won’t like it. It’s terrible on the body and the bunk isn’t that comfortable. Unless you’re going to ATL or DTW…then it’s just fine.

Valid point on their reserve rules, especially for international. A friend of mine is holding off on international until he can solidly hold a line for that very reason. However, Gunfighter is right, our AE system, specifically the 365 window and zero control over when you go, it's absolutely terrible. I'm living the 365 mania right now and it's been a ridiculous road that isn't over yet.

Lol, I never imagined my QOL would be so much better on the 717 than it would be for any of the other NBs in base. Honestly, looking at what I'd be doing on the 330, even better than that for now. Crazy times.

Not necessarily true. Friend of mine is still awaiting training for a bid in August. Still no training date. Not pay protected until 2 months after conversion date....so, March for him. It's been 6 months where he is unable to make concrete plans(and counting).Oh, and if they train out of seniority, it is not ALL who are pay protected above....it is a 1 for 1 pay protection. So, some things better....some things worse. We are not politicians where we get to only pick the good out of other union contracts and portray our contract as woefully lacking. We are pilots and do it too (the pols have nothing on us)

I can hold 777 Cap in EWR with about 10 junior to me, cant hold 787 there. Unfortunately, I am about 1800 away from holding 787 Cap in ORD (where I live), so that will be awhile. Hopefully the 787 delivery nightmare gets resolved soon and the movement on that fleet can resume to cover both growth and retirements rather than just retirements.

Currently I am a 756 Cap sitting at about 60% base seniority among the ORD 756 Captains.
Good info thanks for sharing. What do ORD 73/320 CA upgrades look like? ORD seems to be your most senior base aside from maybe Denver?

Of course there are one offs. I know of one as well. I’m not trying to cherry pick, well maybe a little but I was just showing the flip side to an argument that delta is a the greatest of all time. It’s tiring when people only take what they want and try to paint a broad brush as if that is a big picture. We have a great (but room for improvement) reserve system. But like negotiating WB perks, our reserve system only impacts a small percent compared to the overall group. Everyone DHs, everyone needs to eat. A huge % are being crushed by terrible lines. We have a lot of warts and no sign of improving.

100%; the only airline I have worked for where reserve trends to go senior. Just goes to show you how much the rest of the contract is lacking.

Agreed

But, if their QOL is so much better in most respects, why did they have so many unfilled positions in not only Capt seats, but also the vaunted WB FO? That's what I'm still trying to parse and my friend has not shed any sunlight. I'm entertaining thoughts on the subject.

BTW..."the reserve system only impacts a small percentage compared to the overall group"? 20-30% IS smaller than the whole , but it is still substantial( at least for me it is)
