Most of the time I get this we are in smooth flight conditions. Or just very maybe some occasional light chop. If I think it's going to get bumpy I let the lead know, kick on the belts sign and let the lead determine what level of service is required. This calling me up in the front demanding the belts be turned on, when it's not warranted, is no bueno. Someone started it somewhere, and we need to put an end to this behavior.
I tell them no. They get annoyed, but it is what it is.

I've had it happen several times. Seems to be increasing over the last 18 months or so. WB. Doesn't seem to relate to a base. However the senior mamas seem to handle most of this stuff in stride, get the service done and press on. It comes from a younger demographic. My issue is part of my brief, unless it's an emergency, I would like all comms to the front routed thru the purser. I don't want to be talking to 6 different people at once. What we have is some random picks up the comm, rings us upfront and tells us to turn on the belts. That's a non-starter.

I tell captains that I charge 1 hour minimum captain pay for making that PA.

nope, lax.west coast FAs are pretty chill imho. I also make sure they know at the start that we are a team. Maybe the guys that have trouble with FAs are the dudes that drop a very “Im the alpha” brief.

I've had it several times - and I'm pretty liberal with the sign. It's just a ripple of bumps and the call light is dinging.

I get that once in awhile and it's usually a senior FA forced to work the back on an all senior crew. They want the sign to clear the aisle so they can work without 20 people deep waiting on the lav.

My technique is that when i brief the A, specially if the first part of the flight is Turbulent…

”Stay seated, wait for my call. It might be about 30-40 min before we are in smooth/light turb air. Once I call you, you can stand and do your service, but I’ll keep the sign on so you don’t have people going around everywhere”.

Most of them understand that we know they are working and appreciate the thought. My job is to move the pax and FAs safely from A to B. If they don’t want to do their service, that’s out of my hands. I also understand, the 321 in the back is completely different than upfront.
