When we go without headsets at cruise and the other pilot puts in ear plugs, they crank up the speaker volume and shout at me for the next few hours. So like I said, I guess that’s what I’m going to do now, put in ear plugs and increase the volume of everything else in the cockpit except the wind noise.
Ear plug use is just trading future hearing loss for immediate voluntary hearing loss... I kid.

I just use my headsets all the time. I only take them off for the crew meal. Other than that my Bose pro flights are on.

I got the Loop Quiet 2 plugs from Amazon. They're pretty comfortable. Im a side sleeper and find foamies uncomfortable after a few hours, I don't have that problem with these. They sell some other models that let in sound but dampen background noise. Those would probably work great for dampening wind noise while being able to hold a comfortable conversation volume.

Ive experienced this a few times recently, all ages of pilots. Is this what we’re doing now?
Mine go in from pushback to shutdown. Long exposure to even moderate ambient noise levels will kill your hearing.

Download a DB meter to your ipad or phone. 80DB is the max for Boeings and I think it's a manufacturing standard so that probably applies to all fleets. 80 DBs is a lot so write it up if it's loud. This used to be a real problem on the 757-300s.

The speaker is what gets me. "I'm going topless" and apparently cranking the speaker to 11. And that's why I'm wearing my noise-canceling headset for the whole flight.

I have not ever been on a WB Airbus JS but I'd imagine it's the same as any other airliner (air liner) and the noise is louder than you think.

Reminds me of the speaker being so loud with some of our more senior CAs that you NEED headsets!

Did you call for the decent checklist?

Yes, 5 times.

Had a F/O bring a meter on board the '72, registered 94, brought it up to the Co. They suggested that he find a nice safe place for his "Meter."

😂 How's your hearing these days? I imagine you flew lots of loud airplanes with minimal hearing protection. We're going to be in your shoes before we know it.
