Knowing how to use your PB days helps and plenty have cashed in for real days worth value or more without RES coverage…

Union has sent numerous emails about this on top of chatter all over forums and Facebook about how to do this…

QOL is more time off. Then YOU can decide when, if, how much, and the value of the time you sell to the company.

I like my time off as does my wife and family. Whenever I chase PB days or try to roll thunder I get eye rolls from the family because I’m constantly on icrew and put myself on SC (so to speak) on my days off and days on LC. I may be technically working less, but I’m never really off. I’m like a corporate pilot chained to the pager waiting for the next call. We make plans to go out to dinner on a Friday night and I’m the weirdo loading my luggage works in the trunk, “just-in-case”. Football games are interrupted by that ARCOS phone call when I’m least expecting it. My weekend isn’t a weekend anymore. This isn’t a way I want to live my life (nor does my family). Am I doing it wrong? Where is the QOL on reserve that everyone seems to find so sacrosanct? When I was new and on reserve, reserve was at least partially liveable because we were full at 70 hours and the schedule was lowest hours out first. Now it’s morphed into a quest for 180 hours and max PB days. Where can I move my X days to torpedo RAW???? This schedule vaporizer isn’t the QOL I’m going for, it certainly is a money maker though.

This whole PB day thing is just the company trying to get us to pay for our own pay rate increase. When will we stop falling for it?

Reserve GS with yes to auto accept and no to auto acknowledge. You only get the calls for the trips that are yours. Ignore the call and it goes away. You have the ultimate control with the ability to not do anything you don't actively pursue.

Not wrong necessarily, but definitely different from how I do it. I don’t need to roll thunder and my category isn’t short enough to do it even if I tried. However in our current setup, if the phone does happen to ring and it’s a decent greenslip, you can take it knowing you’ll get those days off back and won’t lose a single minute with the wife and family. REG GSs trade time for money. RES GSs are just extra money.

just to be clear any sniffing of PB day changes, automatic no from me. I also bid a line 80% of the time but not a chance I will EVER give that up
When I have bid reserve and most senior Guys I know bid reserve it’s to stay home and not work. Payback days would have no impact on that choice.

I’d love to hear his “grown-up” solution to communicate his displeasure to the company and method for displaying pilot group unity within the constraints of the RLA. My guess is it looks a whole lot like deafening silence.

Yeah. The lanyards are juvenile. Yeah. They violate the FOM. And they’re one of the only legal avenues we have to show our unity and displeasure. If it’s stupid and it works, it isn’t stupid.
