Biden backs rail bosses

Barring an emergency session where the Ds (union worker friendly???) control both chambers nothing gets done. Next year a split congress, nothing gets done again.

Hearing Congress is contemplating imposing the almost-passed TA plus a week of paid sick leave to sweeten the deal. That's not how most of us probably want the system to work, but it's plausibly a desirable outcome for a majority of affected workers. My understanding was that the absence of paid sick leave was perhaps the singular item missing from an otherwise passable agreement. Sounds like such an ending to negotiations would be a slight win for the economy and rail workers and a slight loss for management.

It's almost like Berkshire Hathaway, with it's massive positions in railroads, has an outsized influence in Congress, even a lame duck, party switching, out-of-session Congress.
Up to and including ordering Congress to make this go away, even when they're out of session.

I appreciate the skepticism.
But if a congressional mandate includes a modification large enough to have swung a vote from barely losing to significantly passing (as a week of paid sick leave would arguably have done, and which management negotiators held as a never item all along), that does ultimately look more labor-friendly than management friendly to me.
Ultimately time will tell if directly-affected rail workers and indirectly-affected Americans approve of what congress could impose. Good time to reach out to your congressional reps if you’re into that kind of thing.
