Will add, that in the Airbus, the other pilot may not see what the PF is doing. With Air France 447 the Second Officer in the left seat did figure out what was going on, but his nose down input was canceled by the PF's full aft input. The "Dual Input" aural was mixed in with all the other level 5 warnings "STALL STALL TERRAIN dual input TERRAIN" you get the idea.

Saying things like “power” or “airspeed” are terrible…too vague.
“Power”...do you want more or less? Same with airspeed.
Be descriptive with your calls…”you are 10 knots slows” or “VVI is 1500 ft/min”

Speaking of vague. VVI up or down? How about “descending 1500 feet per minute”?

Rather than direct critique, which many find off putting and/or offensive, I find muttering the “Last Rites” or “Extreme Unction” under my breath in Latin on the inter phone is a good way to subtly express my discomfort a how things are going.

Between age 67 and 6 month captains flying 767s through hail, it begs the question, has anyone had to take the airplane from the CA?
I had an incident a few days ago where the CA decided to click off the a/t in gusty conditions, vref was around -10 kts at ‘50 feet, resulting in a near tail strike.
thoughts??

Going back to your original point it’s difficult to take a transport sized aircraft from someone safely at 50 feet. If you felt the aircraft was in an unsafe state the correct answer is “ Go Around”.

Almost every CQ cycle we have to do some iteration of autothrottles off. The FAA even encourages it on the line to keep the hand flying skills. Many planes can defer the autothrottles and we, as pilots, should be able to not need them. Like sailing said, use the additives, watch the trends, use known pitch and power, and have a good pilot monitoring. If you are afraid of no autothrottles, you’re the problem. But it should be briefed and done properly, not Willy nilly endgame with no additives inputted and pilot monitoring being surprised by the decision (unless they decide to quit on their own).

+1 to the "Go around" suggestions vs. take the airplane.
