Oh and if you don't want to turn off the speaker at least turn off your hot mic!

The speakers are supposed to be on after landing so the arrival crew can listen up in case the ramp personnel need to discuss something, verify chocks in, etc. That doesn't mean you leave the cockpit with speakers on, and ramp and ground control both selected and broadcasting at a deafening level into the empty cockpit.
Bottom line. If you keave the speaker on, please ensure it isn't fully loud, and please de-select everything (incl hot mic) except for flight intercom.

Herk beat me to it.
For everyones info: FOM 30.1.1.1.2 & 4 (I know it's buried deep) You don't have to have the speakers on except 10 min prior to departure for ALA communication, and for 10 minutes after arrival. This is all covered under "Ramp Operations".

people seem very particular about this stuff. Generally I just consider us married and meshing together in a dynamic way for a few days kind of feeling it out seeing how we work together on the fly.
i always ask for feedback and nobody has really given me any “yeah dude that’s weird how you do that”.
checklist will catch any foul ups anyways.

Generally on the ER I just start by setting up my iPad then my little yoke paper thing with the flights info. After that O2 mask then FMC flight plan PERF, CPDLC etc. if the FO isn’t back at that point from walk around if he’s PM I’ll just start doing all the other stuff and let him know what I’ve done when he gets back. If they’re flying and I’m outside they seem to just do all that’s left to do until there is nothing left to do and lets me know. Never had an issue really in two years as captain.

I’ll even reach over and deselect all the captain’s radios and hot mic for the next guy.
