If the total list is 500 less, those A numbers don’t look bad. I did not look up any numbers FYI.
Nov 24 - 17,360
Nov 25 - 17,244

Granted that's just the total list, I didn't take out pilots on leave etc.

So the reduction in captains does outpace the reduction in total list (at least ignoring all the possible long term absences). Something else to consider…. A year ago the 73 was well over staffed in the left seat in preparation for the max that didn’t arrive. Fleet wide, that alone could make up the difference in captain numbers.

As we keep “junioring up” the air line we can do more with less. 70% of the airline hasn’t hit 4 weeks of vacation yet. Heck, around 40% is till stuck on 2 weeks. I would imagine sick leave / LTD use is down as well.

8087/17360=0.466
7918/17244=0.459

yeah it’s a rounding error

taking out nbc, you get 15982 pilots in nov24, and 16049 in nov25.

but then you have to recalculate with things like instructors on fly vs non-fly duty.

either way, it’s all in the data noise

I’ve heard sick leave has gotten much higher.

With the temporary elimination of sick verification it would make sense that sick usage would tick higher. However, I'd argue it has already been higher than historical norms since last year there wasn't a single category (or maybe just 1??) that "won" the sick leave usage contest. I know in years past many categories would hit the trigger each year for the single day, and some would even hit the trigger for the 2 extra VAC days (and IVD usages, which is really the bigger deal).

Does anyone know how long you have to use the one time get out of jail free card for an advanced entitlement if you want to remove your bid? Is it anytime up until training? I could not find clear language on this.

Higher than what? The times when people would fly sick?

Sick leave is classic use it or lose it. Any doubt that you’re physically fit to fly and there is no doubt…

Something happened in 2020 that changed society’s perception about going to work sick.

Weren't people hailed as heroes for staying home when sick in the recent past?

The company didn't do themselves any favors with the MSP 73N fiasco.
