Yep - I've walked here and there and had some good food there, I used to be in a crashpad in Howard Beach..

I was specifically talking about the food in the hotel. Sometimes it's late or raining or snowing..

PWA 23.M.6.b states its based on the pilots status at report so its entirely possible that if no LC pilots remain, it can be given to a pilot that is going to be SC at rotation report, even thought its > 18 hours from trip assignment to report.

Right. But my point is, if you're only going to give a short call pilot a rotation that meets the long call window to avoid OOBWS, what's the point of putting anyone on short call?

I might me missing something (it's not you, its me)....I don't really see it as doing it to avoid OOBWS.

SC's for next day are normally assigned between 1100-1200 Mecca time the day prior.

Sometime after that 12 noon PCS run, someone REG bangs in sick and their next day trip it is now in OT and it just so happens to fall into the time period that some junior pilot has SC.

Report is > 18 hours so scheduler starts running 23.N

1) Recovery
2) IBWS
3) LC
4) SC
5) RES X day YS
6) OOBWS

The scheduler isn't giving it to SC just to avoid OOBWS....they are giving it to a SC pilot because the PWA says they have to.

It doesn’t have to be this way, but it is. Some things never change.
And sometimes pilot groups actually go on strike.

According to the ALPA white paper, they are undervaluing the credit for vacation and training, so when PBS runs, you wind up with a lot fewer reserves and more than usual open time.

Someone was saying well that’s just the contractual minimum, but it looks like that’s their goal even though they seem to know they can’t run the airline like that.

I don't think you're missing anything. I was moreover attempting to be philosophical with my question, but I think I misunderstood the assignment.
