I love the short hotel. Sure beats the dump we used to stay in off Jamaica Blvd. I’d much much rather stay at the short than hour+ van rides to NYC, midnight release to 1pm pickup, followed by another 1 hour+ van. Even the shorty short takes about the same time riding the airtrain for early reports as the 10/15 min SkyHop for the short. Tons of restaurants over in Howard beach main drag.

I believe this contract is going to be the nastiest we have ever had to negotiate since I’ve been here. Truthfully, it seems like every cycle gets harder and harder. Last one, we had an intent to strike vote.
It doesn’t have to be this way, but it is. Some things never change.

I completely disagree. It's clear the company is desperate. Look at the high-level personnel changes. Read the desperation in RG's emails. Hear the accusations lobbed on the pilot group by HT, et al. Even if the accelerated negotiations plan fails, ALPA can show they tried, they offered but it was the company who didn't want help. They cannot say we weren't serious and helpful partners. It destroys their narrative. ALPA's actions serve that purpose and sometimes you have to go through those motions even if you know the likelyhood of success is low. I, for one, am ok with the current plan and am willing to be patient and increase our ask on the long route.

Our union completely misread the situation. We never should have tried for a quick contract unless company approached us. Management despises us. They don’t even hide it anymore. They publicly say the pilot group is racketeering.

What amazes me is that they have baked in a ridiculous amount of not just premium pay, but 23M7 pay too. They would rather pay triple for (supposedly 40% of) what they cover daily than give us a contract. Or, probably more accurately, they want concessions we cannot abide.
The concession stand is closed. I’d rather sit on this contract 5 years post amendable.

My understanding is that they DID approach us. (Their terms were laughably absurd, but…)

They will return; just wait until we reach peak summer flying. The "racketeering" will increase, and farming yields will improve.

A ratifiable deal that fixes trip coverage will come with a heavy cost. Signing this expensive deal will be an admission by RG that his decisions in the name of efficiency and cost control over the last 8 years were mistakes. His ego won’t allow that. So they will just try to hire their way out of the mess while blaming the pilots.
