Delta's hiring practice sounds like it sucks. UPS's sucks as do those from SWA, FDX...oh wait, they all suck. Every airline has their own unique way of screwing up a system that on the surface appears relatively easy: choose to interview from those resumes exhibiting the desired technical backgrounds and hire the ones that do well in an interview.

I am having trouble following your posts but I will try to respond....

Who they choose to INTERVIEW is based primarily on your application. Your application is a representation of your past experience and background. Most of this makes up your pedigree. Once you get to the interview YOU determine who DAL hires.

As for the second part I don't think DAL determines your fate by judging whether they would like to fly with you or not. Although I'm sure that may cross their mind at some point. Remember, the panel interview is a fraction of what passing the interview takes.

Back to the thread:

It seems like a lot of former military guys with good service records are getting through the board so hang in there.

I have 0 fact to back this up and this is only speculation on my part. After talking to some former military guys who were held up, but eventually made it, we determined that there may be a common theme. Maybe some others could shed some light on this as well.

It seems that the question "Tell about a time when you had a problem with a superior and how did you handle it?' maybe giving some a problem. I am not familiar with conflict resolution in the military, but I can't picture many meetings with the boss in which you communicated your feelings and wanted to resolve a problem. It seems more likely that one would just have to prove him wrong by letting actions speak for themselves. I don't know if that is what he wants. I think he may want to see that you can effectively communicate your issues and resolve it through better teamwork and understanding. Remember I don't know that for a fact just speculation.

Good luck

Did anybody fail that talked with Dr. Tanaka the young Asian Guy? Everyone I know said the eval went fine with him.

I happen to disagree. CAL was actually enjoyable. An hour panel with 3 captains which was more of a conversation than a brow beating and a sim for about 20 to 30 minutes. Not a big deal in the least.

For an airline to have your job hang on the opinion of a shrink is ridiculous. Most shrinks are as crazy as their normal patients. Standard haenious DAL act. Maybe they can top of their interview with some sun chips before you hit the road.

Maybe CAL can take your insurance card when you walk in the interview room.

I know a good dude that went to CAL after being held up on the psych portion at DAL, so I can't say I completely disagree, but the rest of the interview process was solid. Arnie runs a good act there.

Maybe this gave the psychs more say...

BTW they do serve sun chips for lunch.

Are the civilian applicants getting held up, or does Delta hire only a small quantity of civies that it is not a significant number ? Thx.
