FWIW: A buddy of mine looking to get hired talked with one of our hiring department (LAX73A) members at the OBAP Conference. She said to expect hiring in the spring and that initially the 717 would staff at 9 crews per jet (sounds like a lot since current domestic is around 6(?)). But we are still waiting for Network's block hour plan...

Well we are starting to see the bottom WRT to increasing PRASM through capacity reduction. IOW, shrinking to profitability isn't working anymore. Taking that into consideration it will be interesting to see how RA and the gang respond to the LCCs refusal to join in on the latest fare increases.

The demographics on retirements were quite different in 09 however I never heard anyone say we would keep hiring. In fact I remember flight ops putting out that they would hire 180 to 240 pilots in that time frame.

I did too but for that to happen the world need to have confidence in world currency. For that to happen you need better fiscal policies.

No I don't for the next few years. That was the point of the 717 transition. We are moving a equal number of seats from DCI to the mainline. Consolidated seating will not change but the mainline will do a higher percentage of the flying.
