So, you work for Delta but you are not Delta. They vs. you. That's pretty telling. Support the company or don't. Your choice. I choose to be Delta and proudly am an employee. I get paid to fly airplanes also...Delta pays me. I'm assuming Delta pays you and you wear your Delta uniform.
And it's "their" not "their." I think you meant it's "their" not "thier". :D |

This is a different animal - the prosperity of our immediate futures is tied to Asia, and HND is in the cross hairs at the moment. Getting the SEA-HND slot won't nessicarily net us jobs, but losing it might cost us jobs, or slow down growth at the least. If the Japanese get away with isolating US flag carriers from HND while they use it as a primary O&D international port, the remaining beach and transfer traffic out of NRT will result in a huge pullback from Japan. Eventual 787 overflights will still not recapture the O&D we get with Fifth Freedom rights. If we don't get access to HND and the international O&D I would anticipate furloughs, stagnation, and hiring pushed back for years until retirements eat up the difference. |

Totally agree with you.
Capex is very easy, the letter is already composed, just submit your info and send. That's it. This is a big deal for us, we all need to respond. Not to mention that American is pushing for this as well. |

The last time DAL asked us to lobby for them, they had this glowing and rosey picture of more slots and jobs for mainline, most on here were pontificating about the possiblity of hiring....for LGA slots, then we we got the deal done....90% of the slots went to RJ's.
News Release Delta Continues New York Growth with Expanded Caribbean, Bermuda, Florida Service Airline adds new and expanded flights to 10 popular destinations from LaGuardia, JFK May 21, 2012 NEW YORK, May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today announced new and expanded service to 10 popular destinations in the Caribbean, Bermuda and Florida from LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, continuing its historic expansion in New York. (Logo: Login ) The new flights, which will begin in late 2012 and early 2013, are in addition to Delta's previously announced expansion at New York-LaGuardia, where the airline is adding more than 100 new flights to 26 new destinations this summer. When its full schedule is implemented, Delta will operate more than 260 daily flights between LaGuardia and more than 60 cities, exceeding any other carrier. Delta also is optimizing its schedule at JFK to facilitate convenient connections to international flights. JFK is a major global gateway for Delta, which operates nonstop flights to more than 45 international destinations from the airport. "We're excited to be announcing new and expanded service to these popular leisure destinations at the same time we're building our new domestic hub at LaGuardia Airport," said Gail Grimmett, Delta's senior vice president – New York. You clearly have not followed the ongoing growth in NYC. Your post is out of date and not correct. The initial round which consisted mostly of replacing small USAIR turboprops was heavily weighted to RJ's. No surprise there. Phase two however was almost all mainline and since then many routes from phase one have upgraded to mainline flights. Its expected when the 717 comes online there will be additional upgrades. Overall we added a substantial number of mainline block hours. Block hours equal jobs. More block hours equals more jobs and advancement which means higher pay.
My career is essentially set in stone now. Delta will get me to retirement so I really have no big stake in future expansion. I doubt however you can say the same. You might want to think a bit about your future. Sailing, In general your post is correct with the exception highlighted in red. It was a huge "surprise" to 90% of the Pilot group. Yes, mainline is slowly replacing the RJs and growing at LGA - this is great news. But do you honestly think most of us were not surprised with the 90% initial RJ rollout after our lobbying efforts? And while I agree that we should all do our share and help out when able, this is the result of the perceived "bait and switch" on the initial LGA swap - many Pilots are now distrustful and a few will not participate in these programs any more. In hindsight perhaps the company should have been a little more forthright about the initial RJ rollout. They have been pretty good about explaining it after the fact, but many feel we were initially mislead. Scoop |
