My wife travels for business once in while, so of course she flies on Delta...we can use the money. Just recently did a trip East Coast to LA, than Vancouver, and back thru Toronto to the East Coast city. Only the first two legs were on our carrier. The LAX to Vancouver was ALASKA, then followed up by Air Canada for the remainder.

So my question is why is Alaska flying a 737 from one of our hubs..LAX...to Vancouver? LAX is not a hub for them, at least according to Alaska's website. LAX is a hub for us! Look I get the Vancouver to Toronto leg being on Air Canada, but shouldnt the others be on our metal?

That there is the reason we are not hiring. Plain and simple.

AK has an LAX hub so that would be a hub flight for them.

That's what I'm getting. It shows that I don't have a "slide able" vacation since the last day is in Dec.

Delta's attrition rate is virtually zero.

After the 2010 hiring stopped I have seen 19 guys junior to me (07) hire leave the seniority list. I think we hired about 200 so that is a 10% attrition rate in the newhire group which is alot larger than virtually zero.

We hardly do any north-south flying out if LAX. Just a handful of SFO. AK does it all now.

Some of them were fired for not being able to master the beast (THE 9). CRJs kill the brains too.

The rate of pilots leaving to go to other airlines is virtually zero. We have lost pilots to medicals and getting fired. The attrition rate to other airlines has been in the low single digits each year. They have seen higher loss rates in training in the recent rounds of hiring.

Unless you are the pilot that leaves. Then it's virtually 100%

I agree it is low but would not say virtually zero since I personally have 5 friends who have left for other airlines. Yes I know 5 out of 12,000 is virtually zero - but these are just guys that I know pretty well.

2 Feb 2000 hires - Both flying corporate.
1 mar 2000 hire - left for FDX
1 Jan 2002 hire - left for Jet Blue

1 other is a June 2000 hire flying corporate but still might come back - not sure how long he will even have this option if in fact it is still an option.

I am not really in the loop with the more recent hires.

We have to save our LAX 73N guys to fly the LAX red-eyes. If DAL actually did some north and south flying the guys from the other 73N bases would have to do more redeyes. If this happen the percentage of LAX 73N red-eye flying would be diluted - and we cannot let that happen.

In the immortal words of General Tugidson "We cannot have a red-eye gap!" Name the movie for bonus points!
