Are the guys in Flt. Ops. trying to get rid of mainline airframes/jobs??

Seems odd 'Floperations' would want to dump airplanes, no matter how old, until the replacements show up. What is up with that?

The company is dumping RJ50's, I HOPE we keep the DC9's as long as possible to recover that outsouced flying.

And for BuzzPat, Love the bling on the new avatar!

They only moved one sim since the plan was to shut it down. By closing the nine and opening the 717 on the same bid it would have dramatically reduced the training footprint. Now they will have a lot more training and have to buy sim time. In addition the 717 time will compete with the nine flying and result in lots of credit.

Network Planning, Revenue Management and Marketing. "This expansion will have little effect on overall trans-Atlantic capacity discipline as Delta continues to reallocate seats into high-demand business travel markets."

Read, no growth.

I've thought about heading down to Jack Brown's Seaplane Base to get my float rating, figure it'd be pretty easy as they use J3s. That's pretty close to your neck of the woods, isn't it?

Jack Brown's is about 45 min. north west of me, the one on floats I used to fly was from there originally, my bud bought it from them. He would land on my lake, pull up to my dock to pick me up and we'd go do some splash'n go's. Then when we were done, we'd tie his up and drive out to KSEF, to fly mine, so he could get some wheel landings.

Mine was inside a big steel hanger, it survived the first two hurricanes that came through Sebring in 2004, Charlie and Francis, but when Jean came through it blew in all the hanger doors facing north, wiped out all 8 airplanes in my row, when the big, heavy metal doors blew in on top of the airplanes. It was a mess.

Here's a track of all 3, give it a minute to draw the lines, but I live just about where the 3 lines cross! http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...1896.htmlstory

I won't be going to the Airline Regatta, but I will be racing on Lake Eustis, just north of MCO, tomorrow and Sunday. Looks like very light air though, so we will probably be doing more drinking than racing!

Yikes. We had a nearby airport take a direct hit from a tornado a few years back, totaled 15-20 airplanes, but that was pretty much a freak occurrence. I think being an airplane owner in Fla would make me very nervous in hurricane season! Although I guess that's what insurance is for. Did you get another plane after that?

That's my usual method of sailing regardless of the wind! :D

Did you expect growth to Europe in the middle of a financial collapse?

Wondering how many more of us 2010 hires will jump ship. SW is sounding better and better(at least people like working there). Time to get my resume updated!!

It's a lot more than just 2010 hires who have jumped ship.

It had been over 40 years since a hurricane had come through central Florida...then 3 in 6 weeks! There was nowhere to keep another plane, it took SEF about 2 years to build new hangers, and by then we had taken a 42% pay cut, so no new toys for a few years. I finally bought the little 16' cat in my avatar, used of course, just so I could get out of the house with an excuse; "I'm going Racing" (but really... to drink beer with the boys. :D ).

No, not really. But I see the word expansion and little effect on trans- atlantic capacity discipline in the same sentence. I guess AF will get the expansion part and Delta will get the capacity discipline.

Delta's attrition rate is virtually zero.

Nothing for nothing, but this here is disappointing.

My wife travels for business once in while, so of course she flies on Delta...we can use the money. Just recently did a trip East Coast to LA, than Vancouver, and back thru Toronto to the East Coast city. Only the first two legs were on our carrier. The LAX to Vancouver was ALASKA, then followed up by Air Canada for the remainder.

So my question is why is Alaska flying a 737 from one of our hubs..LAX...to Vancouver? LAX is not a hub for them, at least according to Alaska's website. LAX is a hub for us! Look I get the Vancouver to Toronto leg being on Air Canada, but shouldnt the others be on our metal?

That there is the reason we are not hiring. Plain and simple.
