November Crew Resources update is out.
Bid due out in a couple weeks- small narrowbody bid preparing staffing for the 717s and 737s. Minimal widebody slots. DC-9 likely to stay through 2014 now. They appeared to actively avoid the "hiring" term. Also, no we are not merging with HA or AS. :) |

And it could very well be different this time because there is a different chief of pilot hiring.

The same guy is in charge now as when the 2007-2008 wave was hired. In 2010, they used a different guy. AK was brought back last year. He's been camped out in an office the whole time. That tells me, they're ready to hire but can't seem to pull the trigger.

We are hearing rumors that the DC9 may continue into 2014. These aircraft are already paid for and allow Network additional capacity which increases our revenue. Our training capacity is limited on the DC9 and by 2013 we will have only one simulator which will allow for a training throughput of two crews per month. In order to meet Network’s block hour schedule, we will build up a surplus of DC9 pilots now so that we will have the pilots needed to fly the schedule even if senior DC9 pilots bid off to other equipment types. |

Delta bolsters 2013 service to Paris
October 5, 2012 Delta announced Friday it will begin additional service to Paris next summer with flights departing from hubs and key business markets. The combined new and existing services means Delta will offer year-round and seasonal flights to Paris from 11 destinations in the U.S., including six hubs. Specifically, new and expanded service to Paris–Charles de Gaulle will include new nonstop service from Newark’s Liberty International Airport, new summer seasonal service from Boston’s Logan International Airport, an additional flight from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and expanded service between Detroit’s Metro Airport. Flights between Detroit and Paris will expand from seasonal 767-300 service to year-round A330-300 service. Additionally, Delta has committed to resuming seasonal service between Pittsburgh and Paris while expanding the frequency to five times per week. Delta is also adding an additional seasonal flight between New York-JFK and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. Glen Hauenstein, e.v.p.–Network Planning, Revenue Management and Marketing, noted that the new service will improve Delta’s position in Paris while supporting the joint venture with Air France-KLM. |

I think he means feeding huge hubs on each side of the Atlantic, letting the respecting alliance partner do the final destination in Europe or the US, and forego point-to point.
Works perfect until you drop the higher yielding pax, who don't want two connections in the middle of their Chicago-Edinuburgh, or Lyon-Miami, or Nashville-Budapest... etc. Unless he's upset about the blue carpets in the cockpit. |
