The latest AP article about Alaska's order says 2/3's of the new ones will replace existing aircraft, so it's really a net plus of ~17.

Wait for some of the first new routes to be announced by Alaska Airlines shortly.....
SLC, Belize and Costa Rica.....and more to come after that. I am happy for my friends at Alaska. I say that sincerely. I am sick to death of hearing from the union at Delta how outsourcing is good for us in the long run and we could never do this flying economically. It is pure nonsense. All the talk of tightening the reigns in C2012 of outsourced flying were words only. Another wasted opportunity where the Delta pilot group (under shortsighted, conflicted leadership) collectively shot itself in the foot. Frustrating. |

let's take a real look at how much C2012 will increase our productivity and reduce the number of pilots required. no, I'm not talking about DALPA's nonsensical numbers. let's take a look at the growth of skyteam flying. heck, we don't have to go any farther than Alaska. oh, and it's going to be virtually impossible to hire qualified replacements on a 1-for-1 basis with upcoming retirements. so how's that growth going to happen? johnson29, be honest now. do you believe our seniority list will grow over the next 10 years? (I said I wasn't going to get into any discussions like this after the contract passed, but here goes.) I voted against the agreement. I too was worried about the productivity increases. But, my vote was in the minority. So, now we .... and it seems that I must emphasize the word "we" ... have a contract. So, in my world, it is what it is. In my world, I hope my fears are proven to be wrong and we grow and move up the list like crazy. In my world, outside of going to work and kicking some SWA, UAL, and AMR butt, with the decisions I make and the service I provide, there is nothing that I see I can do about it. So, I guess I'm asking, what exactly do you want to do? I mean you complain a lot about a lot, but what are your suggested solutions to the problems you perceive? I sincerely want to know. Thanks. Vote how you want, but remember the country comes first even if that means some sacred cows (military for me) will have to be slaughtered. We simply cannot continue down this road of spend, spend spend. If we do, there won't be any need for any of us in the Transportation industry. Lots of bias in that article. |
I'm right there with you newK... but I think it's pretty simple, sometimes you just HAVE to say, "I TOLD YOU SO!!" even when you know it's making you look like a big richardcranium. I'd say that's where purple is coming from... I don't know that I disagree with him at all, and he probably doesn't go on about this for a whole trip. I hope. ;)

You are not couting the 62 options in that. Basically they will replace the -400's with some of the new planes but still have plenty more for huge growth.

Sinca,
I think you are confusing your once a year "APD," with a regular PD. An APD will drop with down to 25% reserve coverage with the exception of a few holiday black out dates. So if 45 reserves were required the APD should work all the way down to 12 available. Remember, you only get 1 APD per anniversary year so always try a regular PD (unlimited) first. Scoop The 45/44 number I referenced were for this month in ATL as I have been trying to drop a couple of trips..... Now off to catch the VP debate http://kk.org/ct2/300_corliss_0313.jpg |
