as for the last picture, that little girl is mad.. . it's not an 88.

actually screaming like a little girl was me at 5am when the kids got up. getting that extra hour meant nothing in my house.

The extra hour actually helped my 15 month old get up for the 0750 nonrev my wife and son were on to MCO. Wife laughed at safety video and said Fly button was still on the video. I like the fly button, its funny. I still giggle at the ESPN commercial.

I had a recent trip that really cracked me up. A recent new hire FO proceeded to lecture the other very senior FO on everything he and DALPA had done wrong. Then he jumped in on the terrible burden the pay cuts DALPA had just given away caused him. I was about to chime in on that when when the senior FO let loose. I think his statement was something like "Paycuts! What ****ing paycuts. All you have gotten is one raise after another plus a lump sum payment to front load your retirement! You have not taken a dime in paycuts. At that point I had to break things up because it was getting far to heated. I always find it amusing however when people who were not even there try and reinvent history and explain it to people who actually lived it. Reminds me of a quote a very funny NY Captain made in the lounge last year.
"I am not junior enough to know everything!"

young whippersnappers! Now listen to my wrong assessment of what DL is doing and even more wrong contract advice!

Formally protest? And what do they protest? The marketing actions of a completely different airline? And how do we know that there is demand for more flights, simply because AS added routes? I really don't know what you expect DALPA to do. They successfully tightened the restrictions in the Alaska marketing agreement.

I don't expect DALPA to convince me this is OK. At the very least, I'd like to see "our" union (starting at the top and all the way down through the FPL-collecting waterboys here) say something to the effect of:

"We view this as an unacceptable development. We don't like it, and we don't expect you to like it. We have the responsibility to Delta pilots (our constituents), to make sure loopholes like this are fixed. We will engage the company immediately and attempt to negotiate an LOA. If unsucessful, we will ensure the problem is fixed in the next contract."

It's called "exhibiting leadership" and "taking a stand" for those they purportedly represent.

You have a new hire flying with you?

Man, I didn't know we had hired in the last two years.

Maybe the reason pilots don't do cartwheels around here is that every month they see they're in about the same spot they've been for years. Gets old. And I don't mean just on the overall seniority list but also in their individual category if they've been there a while. And AEs seem to cause more anxiety than joy.

So I think when you start to see upwards movement and people who have been treading water start to move then the mood will pick up. And when folks aren't staring down MD's to MDs all of the time, they'll be a little happier.

Until then we're all just twiddling our thumbs. Or for some, sitting on them.

And some playing thumb wars. I enjoy a good game of thumb wars while on a descend via the PHLBO. Unless I suspect someone was sitting on that thumb.

Also people tend to live in trend vectors. When the vector looks good, even if things aren't, they'll be happy. When things are alright but the vector is not where they think it should be they're not going to be excited until the vector changes.

It's all about vectors Victor.

I try not to think about it, but then I fly with a capt who tells me he got in the right seat of the whale at 5 years and the left seat of the 757 at 10 years. I'm glad for him that he had that kind of career, but it's a whole different ballgame these days.

On a happier note, anybody scored any chicks all wound up by the new Denzel movie? Thinking about putting on my uniform and hanging around the wine bar next to the movie theater here in Renton.
