I asked that Q before. JL put this out in his news email and it only caught my eye because the associated press penned the story and not our beloved AJC. I've subscribed to JL for a long time and I don't remember an chairman election ever getting press. Heck Capligners had more press in the last few years as an individual in ATL news. I'm missing the link to the elections being newsworthy.

I think you pretty much got it. Many of OM's (almost identical to Moaks) circle have worked together for so long that there was an opinion, shared along bipartisan lines and reflected in the vote, that they tended to take each others's counsel more than that of the elected Reps.
I also find it interesting that its characterized as "OM delivered" when he is but one individual in a volunteer organization of hundreds. I'd say the DAL MEC, has, and will continue to deliver, likely more than ever. Captain Roberts will be an excellent facilitator. I think too much credit and importance is being placed on who the Chairman is and not on the day to day work the MEC does. My memory is shot but it seems like the positions have been swapping around since C2K and that the cyclical gains of our contracts and the economy swinging through recessions dictate the next leader. Maybe someone can whip a graph up for mec chairman vs contracts and economy. There was a roadshow slide with the bad things that happend to airlines and the contracts and airlines making money. Noted change has/hasn't worked out well in the past and I'm just wondering if the AP was right and it makes a difference to anyone at all? There's none of the C2K negotiators, but there are 2 of the 3 post-C2K negotiators with positions at the MEC today. All 3 of their follow-ons are there today. Their successors have been there even longer and have made that roadshow chart change the way it looks. Some part of that team may be a circle but they seem to have done the lionshare of the team work for many years. The chairman elect was a com guy and treasurer for nearly all the same time. He's as much of the omalley circle/team as anyone as near as I can remember. I think Bar has it right with the hope that we see some of the team remain and that the outside politics of the country aren't offering change for change sakes. Something subtle happened and a newspaper story made me notice it. |

What's newsworthy in this country is filtered by the media. Yesterday there were between 70,000 and 200,000 people in Paris alone marching in protest of new same sex marriage laws. Many more in Lyon and Marseilles. Not even a mention of it on CNN Europe. That is not just irresponsible, it's censorship. Now if it were a protest in favor of the law, I'm sure it would be the lead story for days...
The press ignores us when we need help and writes about us when it makes no sense but at least we can sit back and watch WN's Cellos Fly Free campaign next  |
I have only held a line once in the last few years, so this may be a really basic question. Is it possible to pick up an out of base trip off the swap board? I tried to do it and got denied, is there a way to do it or am I out of luck? Thanks guys.
