Another retired mil pilot sent this to me. Poor guy is a business executive making big bucks, but his flying days are over. Couple times a month he pumps me for flying stories and I allow him to buy lunch:D Doesn't matter if you're civilian or military, this is for us all. We really do have the worlds best job, just ask your non flying friends.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I FLEW by Brad Baker When the last checklist's run and the bag drag is done, I'll reminisce on the days I once knew, I won't remember the oh-three-hundred alerts, But only that I flew! I will not remember the crew rest in tents, Nor recall how cold Arctic winds blew, And I'll try not to remember the times I got sick, But only that I flew! I will never forget when nature became angry, To challenge my intrepid crew, I'll always remember the fear I felt, And the pride in knowing I flew. I'll remember the sights my mortal eyes saw, All colored in multiple hues, Those beautiful lights on cold winter lights, Seen only by those who flew. God was extremely good to me, He let me touch his face, He saw my crew through war and peace, And blessed us with His grace. So when I stand at St. Peter's Gate, And tell him that I'm new, I know he'll smile and welcome me, Because he knows I FLEW! |

But if you had SWA scope most first officers at Delta would be captains right now.

Question for any line check types. What, if any benefits do you get extra? Pay, positive space to work when doing line checks/OE, etc. Thanks

There would be zero outsourced captains and more Delta captains.
When the RJ's first came on the scene, I called DALPA and asked, W. T. F?? Why is Com Air flying JETS with DELTA painted all over the side?? The DALPA rep on the phone said, "You don't want to fly those jets, it would pay less than L10-11 Engineer!" I said, "I may not want to fly it (I was 757 F/O), but I'll bet all our guys on FURLOUGH would like to fly it!" |

Southwest doesn't allow outsourcing. If DL had Southwest scope, all DCI aircraft would be Delta aircraft, resulting in many more Delta captains.
It was correctly pointed out a few pages back that Delta and Southwest's business model are not apples to apples. Different models have resulted in different approaches (ie small guage feed to the hubs). I'm not saying we shouldn't try to bring DCI in house, but you only have to look back to the RJ explosion to remember that the number of RJ's ordered was exactly BECAUSE they are not flown at mainline. They went way overboard of course, but it is a pretty large leap to imply that if we waved a magic wand, and brought DCI in house, that the same number of aircraft (and resulting CA positions) would remain. |
