I just did 3 in 5 days. 2.8 average? Yeah... No.

If you are senior on reserve, I think thats another story.

Yes, I think that will change. I doubt if the company negotiated for something they didn't intend to use.

Just one more way for the company to absorb impending retirements without replacing them 1 for 1.

But we did get 4-8-3-3, so it's ok.

That is correct. The words "should", "may" and the like have no place in a pilot contract. And past practices do not gaurentee future results. All categories will inevitably see the numbers rise and many will now be hitting a higher max threshold. Add this to the uncorrected reserve gaurentee for trips and reserve is going to suck hard in a few years. The philosophy that they only use 2.8 now, but they wanted 7, but don't worry they will never use them is asinine.

I sit a minimum of 4 each month.. typically 5 and sometimes 6.

Oh, and my category is "fat" as per crew planning. 2.8 my shiny white rear end.

HKG maybe?

I agree. There would be something tragically wrong if some viewpoints couldn't be represented on a public board.

I will also add that there shouldn't be a perfect correlation between a poster and a viewpoint. It cannot be that intelligent people look at an organization, or a person, and invariably conclude that they are never wrong, or always wrong. I have the greatest respect for those who judge based on current facts, not stale ideology.

Aya bubba Timbo?

Unlike Clamp and DW. I wonder if they exchanged phone numbers.;)

Yeah, a Yankee from Philly.

Looks like newK took the ol' 9 out for a spin this morning.

New speed record for you?

I would have believed that 2.8 average a year ago. Now there is no way it's that low in my category unless you are a super senior reserve with all weekends off. I did 5 last month. That was the first time I did 5 as long as I've been here. It was also the first time I sat reserve since the previous February. The previous February, I did 2. It seems they are assigning more and more short calls. My quality of life on reserve last month was the worst it's ever been. I have over 4 years of reserve experience to compare it to. It was so bad that I will now avoid reserve at almost all cost. I feel sorry for the few pilots that are junior to me stuck at the very bottom. Hopefully they live in base. I definitely struggled as a commuter with 2 kids.

Maybe you're fat, and your rear end shiny, because you sit SC more than everage? I've gotten about 0.5/reserve month.

In all fairness, I must admit I am sort of fat too.

And for more disclosure, when I bid reserve in the high season, I'm almost always either flying, or on SC. 2.8/month is probably about right for a company-wide average, but there must be very large variations between categories, and individual pilots as well. I susprct many guys that are junior in NB categories in the summer think the average and max are the same number.

Purple StanK!!! j/k bro. I agree with almost all that you say. If you can kill them with kindness, I think you can make a great impact. Of course, you will need a little Timbo, Carl and ??? to back you up from time to time.
